Nancy Guthrie Update: Expert Reveals Biggest Mistakes Suspect Made That Could Lead to His Arrest

A retired FBI profiler offered new insights into the errors the suspect made during Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.

Jim Clemente, a renowned criminal profiler, pointed out that the masked man seen in the surveillance footage took the “highest level of risk” just by entering Nancy’s home.

“The fact that someone would take the risk of going into an occupied dwelling, spending 41 minutes or so there and then taking the victim with them. That’s a huge risk,” Clemente explained during an interview with “Brian Entin Investigates.” “All three of those things elevate the offender’s risk tremendously.”

Retired FBI Profiler Observes Suspect’s Mistakes in Nancy Guthrie Abduction

Clemente added that the perpetrator was “very motivated,” noting that this drive allowed him to take a great risk of entering Nancy Guthrie’s home.

However, the retired FBI profiler also noticed several mistakes the suspect made, which could ultimately help authorities identify and apprehend him.

“Now, up until the door cam video was released, it seemed like this person was a fairly sophisticated, criminally, and forensically experienced kind of offender,” Clemente told Entin. “But when we actually saw his behavior, we could see that he wasn’t at all ready for that door camera that he went out, walked out of the vestibule area, and grabbed some brush to try to cover it.”

Clemente noted that in the process of covering the camera, the suspect revealed what he believes is a tattoo on the underside of his right wrist. He added that those are “really big mistakes” for someone who took the time to conceal their identity.

Aside from that, Clemente said that the suspect wasn’t really “protecting himself forensically” despite wearing a mask, gloves, and a jacket.

“He thought he was actually protecting himself forensically. But what he didn’t do is actually cover up his mouth,” he explained further. “So he’s breathing out DNA for 41 minutes in that house.”

Clemente added that the abductor’s eyebrows, eyelashes, and mustache were all exposed too, which could have fallen out and been left at the crime scene.

“So, he made a lot of mistakes that really lower his criminal and forensic sophistication,” he added.

Expert is Confident Nancy Guthrie Case Will Be Solved

Clemente also highlighted that the suspect’s flashlight in his mouth did very little in blocking the camera’s view.

“If he had a search light, a very strong flashlight, he could have overwhelmed that camera, and it would not have picked up his image,” Clemente explained. “He thought he destroyed the camera and the images it took. In fact, he didn’t.”

Clemente is confident that the guy’s DNA is all over Nancy Guthrie’s house and believes this will help solve the case.

“This case will be solved,” Clemente told Entin. “I have no question in my mind about it because of that video and because of the fact that he wasn’t forensically sophisticated enough to prevent any of his DNA from leaving his body and being at that scene. I just hope they collected it.”

  1. Thank you for that new piece of information I didn’t know that you could see a partial tattoo. And also, this is going on way too long I believe the ransom notes were from crazy people, and this was some idiot’s idea of trying to do that, and maybe something went awry. And what’s with the blood drops It looks like she was either pistol whipped in the head or punched in the face just to shush her.
