Nancy Guthrie Update: Detectives ‘Closer Every Day’ to Solving Case, Says Retired SWAT Commander

Investigators continue their efforts to find 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, with experts noting that authorities are edging closer to solving the case.

Retired Pima County SWAT commander Bob Krygier told Parade that detectives are closing in on Nancy’s abductor.

Krygier noted that law enforcement is working long hours, carefully reviewing every viable lead and making progress each day.

“They are 24 hours closer every single day,” he told the outlet.

Nancy Guthrie Case Far From Being Cold

Support continues to pour in for Nancy Guthrie.

Krygier also responded to comments by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, claiming that detectives were “definitely closer” to resolving the case.

“No matter how you look at that statement, the investigators ARE closer every day to ending and solving this case,” he added. “That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen in a week, or a month, or even a year, but they are closer today than they were yesterday.”

As the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its second month with no suspect publicly identified, concerns are growing that the case could go cold.

Retired FBI Special Agent Greg Rogers told Parade that it is not the case at all.

“I am confident there is a good amount of familial research underway concerning the DNA samples found in the residence,” he told the outlet. “There won’t be any press releases concerning that…until a potential suspect is identified.”

DNA Evidence Remains Crucial in Solving the Case

Meanwhile, retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente noted that the suspect wasn’t really “protecting himself forensically” despite wearing a mask and gloves during Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.

“He thought he was actually protecting himself forensically. But what he didn’t do is actually cover up his mouth,” he told NewsNation’s Brian Entin. “So he’s breathing out DNA for 41 minutes in that house.”

The retired FBI profiler said the abductor’s exposed eyebrows, eyelashes, and mustache could have left hair evidence at the crime scene as well.

“He made a lot of mistakes that really lower his criminal and forensic sophistication,” he added.

Clemente is optimistic that investigators will solve the case because of the suspect’s DNA.

“This case will be solved,” he added. “I have no question in my mind about it because of that video and because of the fact that he wasn’t forensically sophisticated enough to prevent any of his DNA from leaving his body and being at that scene. I just hope they collected it.”

  1. Why do they tell everyone he didn’t cover, eyes, mouth, etc that just lets the next criminal make sure they cover up .

  2. Why don’t you just let us know when you arrest someone? “We are one day closer to catching someone” just doesn’t cut it.
