New theories have emerged about the suspect’s state during Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.
Retired FBI Special Agents Maureen O’Connell and Jim Clemente shared their observations about the masked man’s behavior while carrying out the crime.
Speaking with NewsNation’s Brian Entin, O’Connell floated the idea that the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs.
“He looked to me like he was high,” O’Connell said during an interview on “Brian Entin Investigates.” “Like he smoked a blunt before he got there to take the edge off, or had some tequila or something, because he just looked so relaxed. He looked so calm.”
Retired FBI Agent Notes Suspect Was Too Calm
O’Connell further explained that the suspect appeared way too calm for someone committing a serious crime.
She noted that the man appeared very relaxed while trying to dismount the camera, when most people would likely show some sort of facial reaction.
“This guy’s mouth was so relaxed like he was taking a nap,” O’Connell observed. “It was just complete relaxation, almost like he was high.”
O’Connell theorized that the suspect may have been under the influence to calm himself before abducting Nancy Guthrie.
Retired FBI Special Agent Jim Clemente considers it a reasonable assessment, considering the abductor’s calm demeanor.
“Generally, I would think that somebody in that position should be experiencing a fairly high level of stress, and that didn’t seem to be exhibited at that time,” Clemente explained.
The Search For Nancy Guthrie Enters Its 2nd Month
GettyMeanwhile, former Pima County SWAT commander Bob Krygier told Parade that detectives are methodically reviewing the evidence collected so far.
“They are 24 hours closer every single day,” he told the outlet. “No matter how you look at that statement, the investigators ARE closer every day to ending and solving this case. That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen in a week, or a month, or even a year, but they are closer today than they were yesterday.”
Retired FBI special agent Greg Rogers also reiterates that the case is far from being cold.
“I am confident there is a good amount of familial research underway concerning the DNA samples found in the residence,” he told Parade. “There won’t be any press releases concerning that…until a potential suspect is identified.”
Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing since February 1.

I pray every day for her and the family. I wish whoever did this would let her go. They don’t have to take her to the police station just somewhere that she can get to a phone. Or near a hospital don’t even have to be in her state.
