Keith Urban appeared emotional while performing a song about a former love moving on, amid rumors that his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, has a new romance.
The former “American Idol” judge, 58, took the stage at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Friday night, where he performed “We Go Back,” a new track from his latest album, “Flow State.”
Before performing the song, Urban shared the bittersweet story behind its lyrics, as seen in a video shared by the Daily Mail.
“This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town,” Urban said on stage. “They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up. I will do that.”
Keith Urban Gets Emotional On Stage
Urban paused briefly before revealing that the former lovers eventually crossed paths again after “years and years” had gone by.
“This guy can’t believe it. He sees the girl, she looks exactly the same,” the country singer continued. “They start talking, they are getting along great. She tells him she’s got somebody else.”
Urban went on to tell fans that the chorus of the song says, “I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad. You tell me that it’s too late now, ’cause there’s somebody new around. But what we’ve got is the one thing you’ll never have. We go back.”
At one point, Urban crouched down on the stage and appeared to wipe away tears.
“This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City,” Urban told the cheering audience.
Urban’s emotional breakup ballad comes shortly after Kidman sparked dating rumors with private equity businessman Michael Reinstein last month.
Keith Urban’s New Chapter Following Nicole Kidman Divorce
GettyPreviously, it was reported that Urban has been enjoying life on the road and is no longer holding back when it comes to dating, especially now that Kidman may have moved on with another man.
“Keith doesn’t have a whole lot of downtime when he’s on tour, but when he does, he definitely has a good time,” the source told the National Enquirer.
Urban is also reportedly often surrounded by friends and longtime fans at his shows, even offstage. And while the country singer reportedly isn’t pursuing every woman he meets, the outlet claimed that some have caught his eye.
“There are certainly a select few that are getting special attention. There’s plenty of flirting, and some get his personal number,” the source alleged. “He’s very discreet when it comes to what goes on aside from that, but he is absolutely dating.”
The outlet added that Urban wants to “play the field without any pressure.”
“He’s obviously enjoying the attention and the freedom to flirt,” the insider claimed. “It’s all part of this new chapter for him.”
Urban and Kidman’s nearly 20-year marriage came to an end in September 2025, with their divorce finalized in January 2026.
