Keith Urban reportedly hinted at marriage issues with Nicole Kidman months before their shocking divorce.
Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands, who is friends with the former “American Idol” judge, revealed that a text from the singer raised red flags for him that something was off between the former couple.
“Before it was announced, Keith sent me a text … he was coming out to Australia,” Sandilands said in the August 19 episode of “Kyle Sandilands Live” radio show, per Nine. “He’s a good guy. He sent me a text saying, ‘Bro, when I get there we MUST catch up.'”

Looking back, Sandilands now believes Urban’s text may have been a subtle cry for support as he and Kidman faced marital problems.
“I looked back at that and thought, ‘aha.’ I didn’t realize what he was saying then,” Sandilands explained.
Urban and Sandilands ultimately did not meet up during the country singer’s visit.
This isn’t the first time Sandilands suspected that Urban and Kidman’s marriage was on the rocks. During a past appearance on “Kyle & Jackie O” show, the singer appeared uncomfortable when the topic of Kidman’s steamy movie scenes came up.
“When Keith came on the show live during a tour on the old radio show, he was quite prickly about that topic,” Sandilands recalled. “I think I said to him, ‘Mate, I can’t watch your wife’s films. I can’t watch her banging these young hotties – they’re too graphic – and I know her as your wife.'”
GettySandilands continued, “And he was like, ‘Yeah, next question’. I was quite shocked. I thought, there’s something going on there. But then again, because they were such a great couple, I just dismissed my feelings as stupidity.”
The Australian radio host also weighed in on why Urban and Kidman’s nearly 20-year marriage ultimately fell apart.
“Keith is a really nice guy, and Nicole is super sweet as well. Some of these relationships just come to a natural end,” Sandilands added. “When you’re in the spotlight like these two, who are really quite private, they don’t air the dirty laundry. They are just two really sweet people. I like them very much. I’m not taking sides.”

Sandilands’ revelation follows reports that Urban was “devastated” after learning that Kidman had reportedly moved on with private equity businessman Michael Reinstein.
According to a report by Australian outlet New Idea, Kidman’s rumored new romance has “shredded Keith,” claiming the country star is still hoping for a reconciliation.
“Up until now, he still had hopes there might be a chance at a reconciliation,” a source told the outlet. “He’s absolutely devastated and is going through that feeling of deep loss all over again.”
The insider also alleged that the singer’s friends are keeping a close eye on him and are not letting Kidman’s rumored new romance get to him.
“If anything, it’s now freed him up to reboot his own post-divorce love life without worrying about upsetting anyone,” the source added. “He’s crushed, and the last thing he feels like is getting close to someone new, but he knows his ship with Nic has sailed.”
