Big Brother Season 28 is on the way, and hopeful houseguests are already lining up for a shot at the $750,000 prize. More than 200 people showed up at Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks, California, on March 23 for an open casting call co-hosted by CBS News Sacramento. Some fans lined up before doors opened at 9 a.m.
Fans traveled from across California and beyond. They all hoped to land a spot on the long-running reality competition series, which has been on the air for more than 25 years.
According to CBS News, each person in the audition room had one minute to look into a camera and tell producers why they should be cast. For some, it was not their first attempt. Sacramento native Justin Cantu, who has auditioned three times, said he has watched the show since he was eight or nine years old and called competing a lifelong dream.
How to Apply for Big Brother 28
GettyIn-person casting events are not the only option. CBS has confirmed that online applications are already open through the Big Brother casting website. Casting reviews reportedly started in early February 2026, according to Big Brother Network. The process includes completing an application, uploading a recent photo, and submitting a short audition video.
According to the official FAQ, applicants must be at least 21 years old by June 1, 2026, and must be a U.S. citizen, per BuddyTV. The casting teams caps video submissions at three minutes, and the casting team recommends rehearsing before recording.
Casting producers often look for applicants with strong personalities and clear storytelling in their audition videos. Past contestants have emphasized the importance of being authentic, energetic, and memorable within a short amount of time.
Applicants are also encouraged to showcase what makes them unique, whether it is their background, strategy, or life experience. Since the video is limited to just a few minutes, making a strong first impression is key.
What to Expect From Season 28
GettyWhile CBS has not announced an official premiere date, the show typically returns in the summer months, with casting decisions often finalized in the weeks leading up to production.
Julie Chen Moonves will return as host, with the new season likely premiering in summer 2026, according to BuddyTV. The winner of the series will take home the show’s $750,000 grand prize, CBS News reports.
