Lainey Wilson turned a concert into a life-changing moment for one very special fan.
During her Feb. 11 stop at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Australia, the country star invited 6-year-old Tessa, who is battling stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma, onstage and crowned her “Cowgirl of the Night.” The emotional moment took place during Wilson’s Whirlwind World Tour and was later shared in an Instagram video posted Feb. 15 by Australian content creator Samuel Weidenhofer, per People.
A Special ‘Cowgirl of the Night’ Moment
Wilson’s “Cowgirl of the Night” tradition honors young girls who embody strength and resilience, and Tessa was no exception.
Earlier that day, Weidenhofer surprised Tessa with tickets to see her favorite artist perform. The family also had the opportunity to meet Wilson backstage before the show. During that meeting, Wilson asked Tessa if she would like to join her onstage later that night, per People.
When the time came, Wilson introduced the young fan to the crowd as “one of the toughest little girls” she had ever met. Referencing her hit song “Heart Like a Truck,” Wilson told the audience that if anyone had a heart like that, it was Tessa.
According to additional reporting from American Songwriter, Wilson also gifted Tessa a matching Charlie 1 Horse cowboy hat and read aloud the homemade sign she brought to the show. The sign explained that she has been fighting cancer for more than 800 days and needs life-saving treatment in the United States.
Onstage, Wilson led Tessa in a series of affirmations, encouraging her to repeat: “I am beautiful, I am smart, I am talented, I can do anything, and I’m ‘Cowgirl of the Night!’”
Tessa’s Ongoing Fight
Tessa was first diagnosed in November 2023 and relapsed in 2025, per People. Her family’s GoFundMe page states that she has undergone years of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and immunotherapy. Specialists in Australia have reportedly told her family there are no remaining curative treatment options available in the country, prompting them to seek care in the United States.
Per American Songwriter, stage 4 neuroblastoma affects the sympathetic nervous system of babies and young children. Tessa’s family is now working to raise $750,000 to help fund treatment abroad. As of Feb. 16, more than $315,000 had been raised.
On the GoFundMe page, Tessa is described as a bright and creative child who loves makeup, fun wigs, crafting and the color pink. She is currently learning to read and proudly shows off every new word she masters. She is supported by her parents, Renee and Darren, and her older brother, Remy.
For one night in Brisbane, the spotlight belonged to Tessa and as Wilson reminded the crowd, “Tessa, if anybody’s got a ‘Heart Like a Truck,’ it’s you.”
