Paul Cauthen, the soulful country singer known for his booming baritone and gritty honesty, has shared deeply personal news with fans — he and his wife, Elizabeth, are expecting their first child together.
The joyful announcement comes as the musician continues his recovery from thyroid cancer, making this moment all the more meaningful.
In an emotional Instagram post, Cauthen revealed that his family’s new addition is due in spring 2026, calling the pregnancy a blessing.
Alongside a photo of a sonogram and a baby jacket, he wrote, “We have been trying for over four years now. It’s God’s timing not ours. We are ready to bring Lil Velvet into this world.”
Friends and family took to social media to express their excitement for the couple.
“MOM and DAD,” wrote country singer Margo Price. “Happy for yall”
One user added, “So exciting! Boys are the best! Congrats y’all.”
“This is amazing news! Welcome to the club of realizing your parents were just trying to do right. Any bad advice you want is free. Can’t wait to meet the little bugger!” another sweetly wrote.
The “Cocaine Country Dancing” artist first shared his cancer diagnosis earlier this year, telling fans that he had undergone surgery to remove his thyroid.
Cauthen Issued an Update
The 39-year-old gave a lengthy update on his health in a heartfelt Instagram post at the end of October.
“I cancelled a bunch of shows this year due to being burnt out and sick…. I got my health right and remembered why I do this in the first place,” he began.
Cauthen continued, “I’m called to do this. The lord has blessed me in countless ways. I turned my back, I selfishly chose my way instead of just listening to the calling. Thankful for all of you who made it out to all my shows. We couldn’t do it without you.”
Road to Recovery
Cauthen first opened up to fans about his diagnosis in a now-deleted post from March, according to PEOPLE.
He said that while on tour, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and his health only continued to get worse.
“I was taking a bunch of steroids to get me through those shows,” he said. “Something woke me up and I was blue in my lips and white in my face.”
He discussed how he felt like something was wrong, so he went to the doctor’s back in Texas and underwent a series of tests. They ended up finding “one little spot.”
Cauthen added, “They told me that it is papillary carcinoma and that it’s cancer.”
