Mark Ballas Answers the Question: Is He or Derek Hough the Better Dancer?

Dancing With the Stars” pro Mark Ballas has responded to a social media user who declared Derek Hough was the better dancer of the two.

The co-workers, who have been friends since childhood, have always had a friendly rivalry. But the social media remark took on an even more pointed meaning after Ballas responded with a hilarious video.

Mark Ballas Answers If He or Derek Hough is the Better Dancer

Mark Ballas posted a fun-filled video response to a fan who pointedly stated, “Derek is a profoundly better dancer than you.” Ballas captioned the clip, “She’s not wrong tho, Derek Hough.”

The video showed the three-time mirrorball-winning pro outside of what appears to be the home he shares with wife BC Jean and son, Banski.

Ballas walked from a garage area to a garbage pail, where he responded to the statement by depositing a pair of dance shoes inside of it. He then opened a second pail and dove headfirst into it.

Several “Dancing With the Stars” pros, including Hough, responded to Ballas’ hilarious video clip. Social media lit up with reactions, with many weighing in on the playful rivalry.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy laughed out loud. Jenna Johnson responded, “I’m screaming.” Emma Slater claimed, “People are savage,” while Lindsay Arnold responded with a series of laughing emojis.

Hough then weighed in on the debate. He wrote, “You’ve got that artisanal garbage vibe,” to which Ballas responded “LOL.”

During His DWTS Hiatus, Mark Ballas Will Star on Broadway

After weeks of speculation, Mark Ballas announced he will join his Season 34 celebrity partner, “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Whitney Leavitt, in the Broadway musical “Chicago.” Leavitt plays Roxie Hart while Ballas will play Billy Flynn.

Broadway.com reported the duo will perform in a limited-run, four-week engagement at the Ambassador Theater. Their professional partnership begins on April 6 and ends on May 3, 2026.

Speculation about Leavitt joining the show began after she and Ballas performed an Argentine Tango to the musical’s iconic song, “Cell Block Tango.” Ballas shared the performance on Instagram, and Broadway’s “Chicago” took notice.

In November 2025, they responded, “Pop, Six, Squish, Uh-Uh, Cicero, Lipschitz, WHITNEY!” The day after the performance aired, the musical’s official TikTok account wrote, “Whitney Leavitt as Roxie when???” “Consider this my informal audition,” Leavitt replied. “ASAP,” Ballas added.
