Michael Bolton’s daughter shared a hopeful update on her father’s battle with glioblastoma two years after his diagnosis.
Michael Bolton’s Glioblastoma Diagnosis
Bolton—who competed in season 11 of “Dancing With the Stars“— first revealed his diagnosis in January 2024, announcing that he had undergone an emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor in late 2023.
“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery,” he shared via Instagram at the time. “Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success. I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”
He underwent another surgery in January 2024 due to an infection, and began radiation and chemotherapy shortly after.
“Whenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you’re not alone going through it is a big deal,” he told People in April, adding that he purposely was not given a prognosis as he was choosing to remain hopeful. “It actually helps people to know. It reminds them that they’re not alone.”
As glioblastoma has a 90 percent recurrence rate, Bolton continues to undergo MRI every two months to ensure the tumor has not returned.
Michael Bolton’s Daughters Share Hopeful Update on His Health
Isa and Taryn Bolton have been by their father’s side throughout his journey. The Grammy winner’s daughters shared his latest health update with AARP.org.
“We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our Dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health,” Isa told the outlet on Friday, December 19. “He has a lot of challenges, and we do have great days and some tough days, but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific.”
According to the women, Bolton experienced a “significant personality change” after his surgery. They point to yoga and physical therapy for helping him get back his “funny” personality.
“One of the interesting things about becoming an adult child caregiver to a parent is that the relationship dynamic does shift so profoundly,” Isa explained. You have an opportunity to work through some things that were challenging and to recognize that you don’t have to be put into a position that maybe you had pigeonhole yourself into in the relationship. You can redefine the relationship in a new way.”
One thing the family can be thankful for is that quality time his diagnosis has allowed them to have.
“He’s been home for two years, recovering,” Isa continued. “He’s with one of his children or multiple children and grandchildren for all of his meals. We probably had more meals with him in two years than we have had our entire [lives].”

Best wishes & Happy Holidays Michael! I was fortunate enough to see you in concert at the Pala Indian Reservation in Southern California in the summer (I think?) of 2006? I was totally mesmerized and thrilled to pieces… It was a dream come true for me. I had been a fan of your music for years. It always made me wish that someone would love me as passionately as the man sounded in your songs. Thank you for that hope. This year I am wishing you a Christmas full of healthy days, peaceful nights, and the beautiful sound of music. May you have a wonderful New Year! Please get well soon and I will keep you in my prayers always. God bless you, ~Tauna
