Former “Dancing with the Stars” mirrorball champion Xochitl Gomez is stepping into a new chapter on screen. The “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” star has officially joined the cast of CBS’s “Boston Blue” in a recurring role.
According to Deadline, Gomez will portray Penny, a witty and mysterious young woman who crosses paths with Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), the son of fan-favorite Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg. Her first episode, titled “Code of Ethics,” will air Friday, Nov. 21, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
The actress celebrated the casting announcement on Instagram, sharing a promotional image and writing, “Mark ur calendars — November 21st. So happy to be part of @bostonbluecbs 💙.” Fans quickly filled the comments with excitement and support.
“So excited!!!! Welcome to the #BostonBlue family 💚💙,” one fan wrote. Another commented, “SO EXCITED to get to know Penny & see you join this phenomenal cast!! 💙,” while a third added, “Awesome. I love Boston Blue and you’re a great choice. Beautiful, talented, and energetic.”
The series, developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, expands the “Blue Bloods” universe and follows Danny Reagan as he relocates to the Boston Police Department. Alongside Wahlberg and Amonsen, the cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Gloria Reuben.
From the Dance Floor to the Big Screen
Before her “Boston Blue” debut, Gomez built a reputation as both a rising actress and a fan favorite on reality TV. She gained national attention after winning “Dancing With the Stars” season 32 alongside professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, charming viewers with her energy and poise throughout the competition.
The 19-year-old recently returned to the ballroom for the show’s 20th-anniversary episode, where she teamed up with DWTS contestant Robert Irwin for a special relay dance. Gomez told Entertainment Tonight that she was “most excited” to work with choreographer Witney Carson, praising her “sharpness” and “technicality.” Judge Derek Hough later complimented Gomez and Irwin’s on-screen chemistry, calling their dance “wonderful” per Us Weekly.
A Rising Star With Marvel Roots

Before captivating fans on DWTS, Gomez made her mark in Hollywood. The Los Angeles native began acting as a child, appearing in “Raven’s Home” and “The Baby-Sitters Club” before landing her breakout role as América Chávez in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” She’s also rumored to reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, though Marvel has yet to confirm her return.
With her blend of charisma, talent, and versatility, Gomez continues to shine across genres — from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DWTS stage, and now in CBS’s newest crime drama. Her “Boston Blue” debut airs Nov. 21 on CBS.
