‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ Script With Johnny Depp Is in the Works

Johnny Depp’s last appearance as Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise was in “Dead Man Tell No Tales” in 2017. The actor said it would be fun to return to the slurring pirate character. It might happen, with another celebrity taking the starring role.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave a major update on the return of the franchise at D23. “We’re talking with Johnny [Depp], we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done,” he told Deadline.

It’s possible that the talks won’t lead to a return on screen. But it’s a good sign that things are moving that way. Depp, 63, would reportedly be a side character.

Margot Robbie is set to star in the upcoming movie. This isn’t the first time Bruckheimer has revealed that they reworked a script.

“We’re working on a script. It’s always on the page; if we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen,” he told The Wrap in September of 2025. “If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen.” There were two scripts, and one of them was dropped.

Robbie told Vanity Fair that the people behind the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film no longer wanted to make it. The movie is supposed to be more female-led. Bruckheimer later clarified that the “Barbie” star continues to be attached to the project.

Depp and Bobby DeLeon launched Three Hearts Rum in April, inspired by the franchise. The first edition is from the Dominican Republic, and the flavor is described as dried fruit, soft spice, toffee, and warm oak.

Johnny Depp’s Scrooge Is Revealed in ‘Ebenezer’ Trailer

The actor has worn heavy makeup and prosthetics to play Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, and Jack Sparrow. He’s adding Scrooge to his list with Ebenezer Scrooge.

The “Ebenezer” trailer shows him with more weight, rough skin, and gray hair and beard. The Charles Dickens character walks down the street, and everyone avoids him.

The movie seems to be a straightforward adaptation of “A Christmas Carol.” Three ghosts visit the miser in hopes of making him kinder. Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, and more are in the cast. The movie will be released in theaters on Nov. 13.

Depp’s return to acting is gaining momentum after the resolution of his trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. He sued her for defamation, and the jury awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages in 2022, according to ABC News. Heard, 40, was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages in her countersuit.

The actor is touring with the band Hollywood Vampires in Europe. Joey Perry, Alice Cooper, and Tommy Henriksen are the other members.

The long-awaited “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie will have to announce whether the talks with Depp result in a deal. It’s unknown how long it will take for production to start.
