Penélope Cruz Prioritizes Family Over Red Carpet Events
GettyCruz does not regularly attend red-carpet events. Instead, she chooses to prioritize her family and spend time with them, away from the cameras. The actress and her actor husband, Javier Bardem, have been married since 2010 and share two children, a son, Leo Encinas Cruz, born in 2011, and a daughter, Luna Encinas Cruz, born in 2013. They have chosen to raise their children away from the limelight.
Shortly after the birth of her son, Cruz gave an interview to Vogue about her feelings on keeping her children’s lives private. “I want my son — and my kids if I have more — to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible. The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work that we do doesn’t give anybody the right to invade our privacy,” she explained.
In the interview, she also discussed how motherhood changed her. “From the first second, you feel so much love,” she shared. “It is a revolutionary experience. That’s the best way I can describe it. It transforms you completely, in a second. … Even if you have heard from all your friends and family, ‘This is what’s going to happen,’ until it happens to you, it’s hard to understand in your soul.”
Like Cruz, Bardem also prioritizes his children. “Now today I have two kids, and we are more aware of how important it is to be present,” he said in a 2024 chat with Interview magazine. “Sometimes we are way too present in their lives.”
