‘The Kitchen’ Stars Say Food Network Made a ‘Mistake’ Cancelling Long-Running Series

Stars of the Food Network series “The Kitchen” believe the network made a mistake by cancelling the series, which was a staple of its Saturday morning programming.

The series, hosted by Katie Lee Biegel, Jeff Mauro, Sunny Hostin, Alex Guarnaschelli, and Geoffrey Zakarian, was surprisingly pulled from the network’s schedule in December 2025. In a new interview, three of its hosts weigh in on the show’s demise.

Why was ‘The Kitchen’ Cancelled by The Food Network?

“The Kitchen” stars Katie Lee Biegel, Jeff Mauro, and Geoffrey Zakarian gathered during an episode of Biegel’s podcast, “All On The Table” to discuss the show’s legacy and the reasons why they believe it was taken out of Food Network’s rotation of shows.

Since its cancellation, Food Network’s viewers have been able to watch new-ish episodes of the long-running educational and entertaining series. Geoffrey Zakarian said that viewers have seen what he called “repacks” of the show since its last episode aired.

He added that the repack episodes give the network “12 more weeks to realize they’ve made a mistake.” Biegel concurred, “They did make a mistake, didn’t they?”

“I think I’m not afraid to say that out loud,” Mauro said during the trio’s conversation. “It was appointment television in a world where there’s no appointment television.”

Zakarian said he felt the cancellation of “The Kitchen” was like “canceling ‘Jeopardy.’ Nobody does that.”

However, that’s not the end of the series just yet. Mauro revealed, “We are filming a special episode of The Kitchen. It’ll be on the air.”

So Why Did Food Network Cancel ‘The Kitchen?’ A Host Weighs In

“The Kitchen” host Katie Lee Biegel shared her thoughts as to why she believes the Food Network series was cancelled. She claimed the decision was “a perfect storm.”

Biegel explained, “I think it was a perfect storm of things that were out of our control of contracts ending, trying to sell Warner Bros. Discovery, and wanting to keep their balance sheet low. It wasn’t about ratings or about what fans wanted. And honestly, it made me feel so good the way that people responded.”

She added, “I knew people watched ‘The Kitchen,’ but I didn’t know that people were so passionate about it. It felt so good to know that we connected with people and became part of their Saturday morning.”

The standalone episode of “The Kitchen” is set to air in March.
