Amid the outpouring of grief for and tributes to Eric Dane from his former co-stars following his tragic passing at the age of 53, one stands out above the others.
Alyssa Milano didn’t just star alongside Dane in one of his most famous roles as Jason Dean in “Charmed,” she was, for a short while, his girlfriend in the early 2000s.
Milano, of course, played Phoebe Halliwell, the third-eldest of the iconic Halliwell sisters in the fantasy drama series, which aired on The WB from 1998 until 2006. Dean was the owner of The Bay Mirror newspaper where Phoebe worked. After initially coming across as an intimidating and strict boss, Dean began dating Phoebe, forming one of her most significant relationships in the series.
The actress used her social media to pay tribute to former co-star and boyfriend Dane.
Alyssa Milano Remembers ‘That Spark’ Eric Dane Had
Alyssa Milano took to her Instagram account to share her lengthy and heartfelt tribute to Eric Dane with her 3.8 million followers.
The post contained two photographs. The first showed Dane with his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie Beatrice Dane and Georgia Dane. The second showed Dane with Milano on the set of “Charmed.”
Milano’s caption on the post began, “I can’t stop seeing that spark in Eric’s eye right before he’d say something that would either make you spit out your drink or rethink your entire perspective. He had a razor-sharp sense of humor. He loved the absurdity of things. He loved catching people off guard.”
She went on, “And when it came to his daughters and Rebecca, everything in him softened. He carried them with him even in rooms where they weren’t present. You could see it in the way his voice changed when he said their names. A breathtakingly beautiful family.”
Her post continued, “The spark. The mischief. The tenderness he kept guarded but never totally hidden.”
Milano then wrote, “He convinced me to get my pixie cut and my nose piercing. He also was with me on the walk when we found Lucy, my beloved rescue chihuahua. He called me “Milano,” as if it was the only part of my name that mattered.”
The caption ended, “My heart is with the people who were lucky enough to be his home.”
It really was the most beautiful post. Dane clearly meant a lot to Milano after all these years.

Finally, another of Milano’s followers said, “So so sad and it was a nice addition to Charmed. Definitely my favorite partner for Phoebe after Cole. You had a good chemistry on set ❤️.”
With so many of Dane’s formers collaborators and associates saying nice things about him, it’s clear he was very loved. It makes it all the more sad that he was taken from the world so young.
