Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
The statement continued, “Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Eric Dane Battled ALS
The beloved actor first shared his ALS diagnosis in April 2025.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he told People at the time. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Just two months after publicly announcing his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, the “Euphoria” star detailed his battle in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer.
“I started experiencing some weakness in my right hand. And I didn’t really think anything of it at the time…But a few weeks later, I noticed it had gotten a little worse,” he said in June. “I will never forget those three letters. It’s on me the second I wake up. It’s not a dream.”
He added, “I’m angry because my father was taken from me when I was young and now, there’s a very good chance I’m going to be taken from my girls while they’re very young.”
Dane shared two daughters, Billie and Georgia, with wife Rebecca Gayheart.
Eric Dane Had a Storied Career
Dane previously revealed that he sort of stumbled into an acting career.
“I was a water polo player in high school and my season was short, and I ended up getting roped into playing Joe Keller in ‘All My Sons,'” he told Gulf Times in 2014. “Dead serious. And I fell in love with it. I was, like, this is the greatest feeling ever!”
He would go on to appear in shows such as “Saved by the Bell,” “Roseanne” and “The Wonder Years.”
His big break would come in 2006 when he landed the role of Dr. Mark Sloan on season 2 of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“I love that character; I just didn’t want to play that guy for the rest of my life,” he told Glamour in 2019. “It’s counterintuitive to what any actor wants to do with their career.”
