Jonathan Scott loves being a dad… both to his stepkids with Zooey Deschanel, and to his fur babies!
And now the HGTV designer is showing his fans just what lengths he’ll go to make sure the three cats he shares with fiancée Zooey Deschanel are happy.
In a new YouTube video, Jonathan reveals the elaborate “catio” he made for Dove, Poppy and Pickle.
The video’s description reads, “For all you cat-lovers out there: Jonathan created a kitty dreamland that is so amazing, you will wish you were a cat. For his feline family (Dove, Poppy, and Pickle) this setup is the ideal playground, packed with everything they could want 😻🐾 Meow to that. If you’ve ever thought “my cat deserves better” THIS is the upgrade you need to see. Watch Jonathan turn a simple space into a luxury retreat that’s safe, fun, and unbelievably cool. 👉 Stay until the end for the cats running around their new space. It will melt your heart 😻”
Jonathan Admits He’s Become a Full-Blown ‘Cat Guy’
In the new YouTube video, Jonathan says he loves the fact that cats “want to smell all those smells. They want to be outside and they want to see everything. The birds, they want to see the squirrels..”
But as a protective cat-dad, the “Property Brothers” star says, “However here we have owls and hawks and bobcats. It is not safe for them. So I created a tunnel system. A catio. Everything the cats would need.”
Jonathan jokes, “Zooey knows the cats come number one. In fact, I think she loves the cats more than me.”
But she’s not the only one devoted to their feline trio. Jonathan says building the catio was “a passion project.”
Jonathan Lets Viewers Get to Know His Cats
While Jonathan Scott has always been more of a dog person, fiancée Zooey Deschanel admitted that she’s been plotting for years to turn him into a cat person.
And it’s worked!
In a TikTok video introducing his three new fur babies, Jonathan explained each kitty’s personality, saying Poppy is “the precocious one” and Pickle is “the cute and cautious one” and Dove is “the queen and she knows it.”
In the video, he showers the cats with kisses and treats.
And now, he’s taken that to the next level with the construction of the catio.
The New Catio Was Repurposed From a Run He Made for His Dog Gracie
In the YouTube video, Jonathan explains that to make the new “catio,” he repurposed a run he made for his little dog Gracie.
Gracie passed away last year at age 17. At the time, Jonathan expressed his heartbreak, saying, “What a wonderful 17 years you gave me. You’re always in my heart.”
Jonathan had to expand the run vertically to give the cats a place to climb. So the Property Brother enlisted the help of his friend Allan from the company “Catio Guy.”
In the end, he says it all came together in just two days, and the cats love it!
