Former NFL Star Vernon Davis Wants to Host His Own HGTV Show After ‘Rock the Block’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Vernon Davis is best known for his moves on the football field, having played 14 seasons in the NFL and winning Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos. But after competing on season seven of HGTV’s hit competition “Rock the Block,” Davis tells EntertainmentNow he’s ready for his own home improvement show — and he’s even got an idea to pitch to the network.

Davis, who got into flipping houses after his NFL career, is part of the first “Rock the Block” season to feature HGTV veterans paired with celebrities who have experience in real estate or renovation.

While Davis is teamed up with “Good Bones” star Mina Starsiak Hawk, the other pairs are 98 Degrees singer Drew Lachey with HGTV’s Taniya Nayak, Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke Hogan with HGTV’s Scott McGillivray, and HGTV alum Kim Wolfe with fellow “Survivor” winner Chelsea Meissner.

Before filming “Rock the Block,” Davis didn’t do much of the heavy lifting on his own renovations, typically hiring contractors to do the work, he told EntertainmentNow. But after diving into the deep end with Starsiak Hawk, and winning their first weekly challenge on the May 11 “Essential Spaces” episode, Davis thinks he’s ready to star in his own home improvement series.

“Yeah, I can do my own HGTV show,” he said. “I can see myself going in there, knocking down some dry walls, expanding the living room, adding to a kitchen, and things of that nature.”

However, Davis said that since there are already numerous renovation shows on the network, he has another idea for a new competition series.

“I would do a show like this — already got the idea,” he said. “I would have people who are not even familiar with the world of renovation and design. I would have them come in, maybe they’re (pro) athletes.”

He continued, “They come in, they get access to one handyman. They have an entire day to design and renovate an entire room. Or maybe it’s a little box house they go in and renovate, design it in one day. The heat and the pressure is on!”

Mina Starsiak Hawk & Vernon Davis Added Big-Time Value to Their ‘Rock the Block’ House

Davis and Starsiak Hawk landed their first win in episode five, as the teams were challenged to renovate the largest space in their houses — the RV garage.

They spent a big chunk of their budget to transform the space into a beautiful apartment, and they’re counting on that adding significant value to their home. That’s critical, since the deciding factor on which team wins the season is the home with the highest estimated value after all of the renovations.

In the May 18 episode, titled “Sometimes Size Matters,” the teams will head outside to renovate their backyards, including adding a swimming pool to create an outdoor oasis, per HGTV’s schedule. Davis and Starisak Hawk said they plan to put their $3,000 winnings from episode five toward their next design.

This week’s celebrity judge might have a soft spot for Davis, since it’s two-time Super Bowl champion Danny Amendola. The season seven finale will air a week later, on May 24, when we find out which team wins it all.

Only time will tell if HGTV comes knocking to bring Davis’ new show idea to life. But until then, he told EntertainmentNow he’s “extremely busy in the world of content creation, from writing to developing content for film and television, and on the business side, just investing in different restaurant concepts and real estate per usual!”

Episode six of “Rock the Block” season 7 premieres at 9 p.m. Eastern time on May 18, and will be available to stream via HBO Max.
