Singer and actress Brandy has had a whirlwind career spanning decades. Now, following the completion of an arena tour in 2025, the “Boy is Mine” singer has another accolade to add to her mantel as she’s now a number one New York Times bestselling author thanks to her new memoir, “PHASES.”
Brandy took to Instagram on April 8 to announce the news. She said in a caption, “I can’t believe this… wow! PHASES is officially a #1 New York Times Bestseller, truly unbelievable. My heart is so full.”
The singer/actress continued, “Writing this memoir meant facing some of my deepest truths, my earliest struggles, and the moments that shaped my growth. There were times it felt scary to share so openly, but it has also been one of the most healing experiences of my life.”
She concluded by thanking her fans, writing, “Thank you to everyone who picked up a copy, shared it with someone you love, or sent me messages of encouragement. Your support has carried me through every phase of my life and career.”
Brandy Released ‘PHASES’ In March
GettyThe music legend first announced plans to release a memoir in January 2025. Initially, it was set to be released that fall. However, the date was changed to March 31, 2026, due to “The Boy is Mine Tour” with singer Monica.
Brandy spoke about “PHASES” in a 2026 interview with NPR. She said of writing it, “For so long, my story was told for me. So, given the opportunity to have a chance to speak myself and tell my own story, I just felt like it was divine.
I wanted to give my younger self a voice and heal my inner child. Some of the things that I went through was super difficult, and I wanted to speak about that and inspire others.”
From there, she discussed working with her co-writer, Gerrick Kennedy. She added, “[Gerrick Kennedy] helped me to recall some of the things that I didn’t remember and was able to put together a beautiful, compelling story to help other people feel like they can survive whatever they’re going through.”

Brandy began her singing career in 1994 with her self-titled debut album, which spanned multiple hit singles. After that, she became a genuine force in television and film. Because of her decades of accomplishments, it was only fitting that she receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Her ceremony took place on March 30. Notably, according to Essence, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Jerry Neuman said that Brandy drew one of the largest crowds for her star ceremony.
