Music icon Paul McCartney is arguably one of the coolest and most successful musicians in the world, still a hitmaker and headliner decades after his days in the Beatles.
But in a nearly hour-long interview with BBC Radio 2 — released on May 25, 2026 — the prolific singer-songwriter said he marvels at how his daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney, is a magnet for “cool people,” even revealing that, at 83, he recently attended one of her parties alongside some of the biggest modern-day pop stars on the planet.
Paul McCartney Calls Himself the ‘Grandad’ to Current Generation of Pop Stars
During McCartney’s interview with BBC Radio 2’s Vernon Kay, he was asked whether he was open to advising someone like Taylor Swift, who has a massive global following like the Beatles had in their heyday.
“Yeah, absolutely,” McCartney replied. “And you do see the parallel (with), you know, the fame and the amount of fame and the worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had.”
“But I don’t think she needs any advice, to tell you the truth,” McCartney laughed. “If she asked for it, I definitely would. Because I’m like the older brother to that generation, you know. Or more like the granddad, actually.”
McCartney then acknowledged that he has met many of the biggest modern-day music stars, noting that Stella and his wife, Nancy Shevell, recently had many of them to a party he attended.
“My wife and my daughter Stella are very good at getting cool people to a party,” he said. “So a lot of those girls were at this party, and I ended up chatting to them all. You know, there was Taylor, there was Billie Eilish, there was Olivia Rodrigo, there was Sabrina Carpenter. You know, they’re really cool people.”
“They’re very good,” McCartney added. “So, basically to answer your question, I like their voices. If they needed any advice, yeah, I would be happy to give it. But I don’t think they do.”
Fans Loved Paul McCartney’s Answer About Giving Advice to Taylor Swift
Fans swooned over McCartney’s response, noting his humility and calling him a “class act,” including someone who wrote on Instagram, “Ummmmm somebody tell him they came because HE IS THE REALLY COOL PEOPLE! 😂”
Another commented, “Paul you’re literally paul McCartney you’re the mother ship of all good and amazing songwriters”
“I love that Sir Paul refused to mansplain superstardom to Taylor Swift,” someone else wrote.
McCartney certainly gets to attend his fair share of parties with fellow “cool people,” including Swift. In 2015, the two icons performed alongside Prince at an afterparty following the “Saturday Night Live” 40th season finale, per The Hollywood Reporter.
On May 16, after performing as the musical guest on the season 51 finale of “Saturday Night Live,” McCartney was spotted at the afterparty sitting next to legendary director Steven Spielberg and hugging SNL cast member Marcello Hernandez in the video above, taken by comedian Craig Gass.
Days later, McCartney was also the final guest on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” after the series finale on May 16, and was spotted at the star-studded afterparty in New York City.
