Beloved Member of The Cure Passes Away-He Will Be Missed

Fans of classic rock are in mourning as Perry Bamonte, beloved drummer and keyboardist for The Cure, has passed away. Of course, The Cure is known for several songs, including “Friday I’m In Love,” “Lovesong,” and “Pictures of You.” Bamonte was 65 years old.

The Cure announced the sad news of Bamonte’s passing on their official website. The statement read, “It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte, who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas.”

The statement described Bamonte as “quiet, intense, intuitive, constant, and hugely creative.” The bandmates also said he was “a warmhearted and vital part of The Cure story. Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed.”


Perry Bamonte Had a Long History with The Cure

The Cure released its first single in December 1978. Bamonte began working with the group in 1984 as part of its road crew. From there, he became a full-time member in 1990. He played six-string bass, guitar, and keyboard.

His work appears on albums such as “The Wish,” “Wild Mood Swings,” “Bloodflowers,” “Acoustic Hits,” and their self-titled work. Bamonte also performed with The Cure for over 400 shows across 14 years before leaving the group.

Time passed, and Bamonte rejoined the group in 2022. This reunion led to 90 more performances with the group. His last performance with The Cure was in November 2024 during the Show of a Lost World concert in London.


Tributes are Pouring In for His Legacy

Bamonte made history as an integral part of the most influential rock bands of all time. Because of this, many are flocking to social media to pay tribute to his legacy. One person noted what his work with The Cure meant to them.

They wrote, “You don’t understand the power Perry Bamonte had when playing From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea. It’s one of my favorite songs. I’m going to miss him lots.”

Someone else said, “Sad news, the faithful Perry Bamonte, keyboardist and guitarist of The Cure, has died. When the ship needed to be rescued, he was always there from 1989, now I understand why his participation in the Troxy concert was almost testimonial. Rest in Peace. 1960-2025.”

Lol Tolhurst, who was one of the founding members of The Cure, said, “So sad to hear about the passing of Perry Bamonte from The Cure. Perry joined us all as my keyboard tech initially, then after working as guitar tech, went on to play in the band. A quiet unassuming man he will be missed by many. . Cindy and I send our love to his family.”

Finally, someone else wrote, “Just confirmed 😔 Perry Bamonte, longtime guitarist and keyboardist for The Cure, has died at age 65 after a short illness at home over Christmas. He was a big part of the band’s sound and legacy for decades, and fans all over the world are mourning. Rest in peace Perry, your music will always matter 💔🕊️”
