Nolan began his career in theater, eventually joining the Royal Shakespeare Company where he performed in projects such as “Julius Caesar” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”
He transitioned to television, earning a lead role in the BBC series “Daniel Deronda” (1970) and “Doomwatch.” He also made appearances in “The Prisoner,” “Silent Witness,” and “Return of the Saint.”
Some of his other credits include “Bequest to the Nation” (1973), “Terror “(1978), “The World Is Full of Married Men” (1979), The Sweeney,” “General Hospital,” “Target,” “Return of the Saint,” and “Enemy at the Door.”
He also got to work alongside his nephew, Christopher Nolan, in numerous projects, including “Following” (1998), “Batman Begins” (2005), and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012), where he played Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks. He also appeared in the 2017 film “Dunkirk.”
However, one of his most widely known roles was in the hit show “Person of Interest,” where he played John Greer. This show was created by his other nephew, Jonathan Nolan. He made his first appearance in the show’s second season in 2013, but went on to have a recurring role as one of the main antagonists. Specifically, he was in 27 episodes.
The actor was married to actress Kim Hartman, with the two having met in a production of “Romeo and Juliet.” They got married in 1975, going on to have two children together, Tom and Miranda. And with that, Hartman also had a small role in Dunkirk along with her husband, portraying a stewardess.
He is survived by his nephews, his wife, his children, and grandchildren.
