Julia Louis-Dreyfus upcoming film hits close to home for the Emmy winner. The “Seinfeld” actress leads her voice to the upcoming adult animated movie “Tangles.” The film follows the story of an ambitious woman who puts her life on hold to care for her mother who’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Being part of the project was important to Louis-Dreyfus, whose family has been impacted by Alzheimer’s.

Getty“Tangles” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14th and is already receiving praise. Louis-Dreyfus who was on hand to promote the film is overwhelmed to see the positive feedback.
When the actress was first approached with the chance to be part of “Tangles,” she was immediately on board. “I was immediately intrigued by this project because it was based on this extraordinary graphic novel, and the idea of tackling this subject through animation geared towards adults was so intriguing to me,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is based on Sarah Leavitt’s autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. Leavitt was an aspiring cartoonist and writer, who put her career on hold to care for her mother.
Leavitt’s story hits home to many people, including Louis-Dreyfus. “There’s Alzheimer’s in my family,” the star revealed. “My grandmother died of it and my mother-in-law is currently suffering with it.”
Louis-Dreyfus husband is actor and writer Brad Hall. The couple’s been married since 1987 and have two sons: Henry and Charlie.
“I understand the disease well and the toll that the disease can take on a family. I’m living that was we speak.”
Having a family member diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is difficult for many, but Louis-Dreyfus believes “Tangles” will remind people to see the positive in a stressful situation.
“Ultimately, this movie is certainly about communication and being in community and the value of family. All of that is sorely needed right now, certainly in our country, and globally, you could argue. I’m hopeful that this film, when people see it, they might take away a new way of approaching those they love in difficult moments.”

The film is already generating buzz following its premiere at Cannes. Deadline reported that “Tangles” received a seven-minute ovation at the film festival. Following the premiere, the cast and crew got up to say a few words.
