In a statement shared on Instagram, the ITV host confirmed her father’s passing and reflected on the memories that shaped their bond.
“Very sad news. My dad has died,” she wrote.
“I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me, and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.
“He was in poor health, but it has still been a shock. We will miss you dad.”
The message offered a quiet, deeply personal glimpse into the influence her father had on her life, honoring not only his loss but the curiosity and wonder he passed on to her.
Tragic Ice Fall That Shook the Family
The Daily Mail reported that John Kelly, 84, died after slipping on an icy footpath in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. Emergency crews were called to the scene around 7 a.m. on January 10, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police Scotland later confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious. “The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious,” a spokesperson said, adding that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Lorraine’s tribute was met with an outpouring of love from friends, colleagues, and fans. Fellow presenter Ranvir Singh wrote, “What a legacy, Lorraine,” while fashion journalist and longtime collaborator Mark Heyes shared, “Sending so much love to you all.”
“Good Morning Britain” weather presenter Laura Tobin added, “Sending love & lifelong wonderful memories.”
The messages reflected the deep affection viewers and colleagues hold for Lorraine, as well as the respect felt for her late father and the life he lived.
A Daughter’s Longstanding Bond With Her Dad
Lorraine has spoken candidly over the years about her deep bond with her parents and the heartbreak of being separated from them during moments of crisis.
In 2020, she shared her distress when John was taken into hospital while COVID restrictions prevented her from traveling from England to Scotland.
“It’s really difficult because my mum and dad are up in Scotland and my poor wee dad has just been taken into hospital,” she said at the time, as reported by Metro UK.
The family later faced months of uncertainty during a cancer scare that was ultimately diagnosed as a severe infection. Lorraine has said those frightening weeks changed how she viewed time, making every moment with her parents feel more precious.
John Kelly is survived by his wife, Anne, 85, who lives with nephrotic syndrome, and his son, Graham, 57.
GettyLorraine has previously spoken about scaling back her work schedule to spend more time with her mother.
As she reflects on her father’s life, Lorraine’s words carry both grief and gratitude. Her tribute reflects the ache of loss, but also a lifetime of love, shared memories, and a bond that reaches beyond goodbye.
