The ‘Beetlejuice’ Cast Then & Now: PHOTOS

The iconic Tim Burton classic “Beetlejuice” is one of the most memorable, quirkiest, and outright best movies of the 1980s. A gothic comedy horror flick, “Beetlejuice” is genuinely completely unlike anything that came before or after it.

The film follows a recently deceased couple who attempt to scare the new residents of their former home by contacting a sleazy “bio-exorcist” called Betelgeuse (spelt correctly, as opposed to the phonetic spelling of the movie’s title) to do the job for them.

“Beetlejuice” starred Michael Keaton in the eponymous role, alongside a fantastic supporting cast that included Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder.

A moderate box office success (it grossed around $78 million worldwide, from its $15 million production budget, per The Numbers), “Beetlejuice” was a huge critical hit, and still boasts an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Keaton is fabulously manic as the lead and the film is both entertaining and wildly bizarre.

Released on March 30, 1988, “Beetlejuice” will celebrate its 38th anniversary this year. Bearing that in mind, wouldn’t it be cool to compare the cast as they were back then to how they are now? Let’s do exactly that…

“Beetlejuice” remains as popular today as it ever was. In 2024, a sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” hit theaters. While it wasn’t quite as well received as its predecessor, it’s still a fun movie that was welcomed by fans of the original. It successfully maintained the quirky tone, and the bulk of the original cast returned.

While it’s great to see so many of “Beetlejuice’s” cast members doing well, it’s terribly said that we’ve lost some of them.

May Catherine O’Hara, Glenn Shadix, and Sylvia Sidney rest in eternal peace.
