Winona Ryder Stars in A$AP Rocky’s New Music Video

Winona Ryder is officially in her punk era, and fans cannot get enough.

The actress makes a scene-stealing appearance in A$AP Rocky’s new music video for “Punk Rocky,” which premiered Jan. 5 as the first visual release from his upcoming album “Don’t Be Dumb.” Ryder’s unexpected role instantly lit up YouTube and social media, with fans flooding the comments in disbelief and praise over her involvement in the chaotic, genre-bending visual.

One fan wrote, “NO WAY ROCKY REALLY GOT WINONA RYDER ON HIS MUSIC VID THIS IS STRAIGHT MASTERPIECE,” while another added, “Having Winona as the love interest is a flex.”

A Punk-Rock Fever Dream With a Hollywood Twist

In the video, Ryder plays a laid-back neighbor who stumbles into the chaos of Rocky’s garage jam session. Rather than shutting it down, she leans into the madness, showing up with cookies, dancing along and casually snacking as the noise escalates. Ryder’s character adds a playful, knowing energy that grounds the video’s more surreal moments while still fully embracing the absurdity.

Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, co-directed the video alongside Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks. Visually, it leans hard into punk-inspired anarchy, featuring Rocky with pink hair rollers, a swollen eye and even a detached singing eyeball as he fronts a raucous garage band. The mayhem draws in police, leads to arrests and somehow still circles back to the party continuing.

Despite the wild visuals, the song itself is surprisingly restrained. “Punk Rocky” blends indie-rock textures with reflective lyrics about love, heartbreak and longing. That contrast between sound and spectacle appears intentional, creating a push-and-pull that defines the video’s tone.

Fans React as Rocky Sets the Tone for a New Era

Beyond Ryder’s cameo, the video introduces five of Rocky’s six alter egos tied to “Don’t Be Dumb,” including GR1M, RUGAHAND, BABUSHKA BOI, SHIRTHEAD and DUMMY, per Variety. The clip also features appearances from Danny Elfman, Thundercat and A$AP Nast, reinforcing the project’s collaborative and cinematic scope.

Fans were quick to point out the significance of Ryder’s involvement, especially given her recent return to the spotlight following the conclusion of “Stranger Things.” As one commenter said “Crazy for Winona to go straight from the Stranger Things finale to this.” Her presence adds a layer of pop culture weight to the video, bridging generations and genres in a way that feels both unexpected and deliberate.

“Don’t Be Dumb” marks Rocky’s first full-length album in eight years and arrives Jan. 16. The rapper previously revealed that the album’s cover art was created in collaboration with Tim Burton and features all six of his alter egos, further signaling a character-driven era built on visual storytelling.

With “Punk Rocky,” Rocky is clearly setting the tone for what’s to come. And judging by the fan reaction, Ryder’s cameo did exactly what it was supposed to do: stop viewers in their tracks and make them hit replay. As one fan put it best, “Having Winona Ryder pull up like that is legendary.”
