Richard Benjamin’s brilliant family comedy-drama movie “Mermaids” follows a neurotic teenage girl — Charlotte Flax, played by Winona Ryder — who moves with her wayward mother and younger sister to a small town in Massachusetts in 1963.
Based on Patty Dann’s 1986 novel of the same name, it also stars the likes of Cher, Bob Hoskins, and Christina Ricci.
