“Wednesday” premiered on Netflix in 2022 and quickly became one of the most popular shows on the streamer. Now, following a blockbuster second season featuring Lady Gaga, Winona Ryder is joining the series for season three. This marks a reunion with Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega following their work on 2024’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
Tim Burton Issues A Statement Regarding Winona Ryder Joining ‘Wednesday’
GettyAccording to Variety, Burton issued a statement following the news that Ryder would join “Wednesday” for its third season. He said, “I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world. And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her.”
Of course, “Wednesday” season three isn’t only a reunion for Ryder, Burton, and Ortega. The show runners for the hit Netflix show, Al Gough and Miles Millar, also wrote the script for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
They said of her joining the series, “When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT. Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore.”
Ryder previously tributed Burton during his Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony in 2024. Per Yahoo Entertainment, she said, “Tim, your friendship has been such an enormous gift. When I met you, I was a weird kid.”
Ryder continued, “You affirmed my voice. You reinforced my confidence to be myself, to go against the tides of conformity. Your creative inclusiveness showed me what true artistic collaboration looked like, and, in other words, you made being a weird girl not just okay, but something to celebrate and even kind of cool.”
Filming Has Begun
The second season of “Wednesday” premiered on Netflix in August 2025, with its second part arriving the following month. Now, several months later, according to Netflix Life, production on the third season began on February 16 in Dublin. This comes after it was previously rumored that production would begin in the fall.
Regarding the cast, Ryder isn’t the only well-known actress joining the series. Eva Green will be featured playing the sister of Morticia Addams. The rest of the cast is expected to include Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, with Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen.
It’s unclear when season three of “Wednesday” will premiere on Netflix or what Ryder’s role will be. However, a 2027 start date seems likely.
