Michael J. Fox is taking fans back in time (literally). The beloved actor just announced his brand-new book, “Future Boy,” and it’s already shaping up to be the ultimate gift for “Back to the Future” and “Family Ties” fans alike. Yep, Fox is letting readers in on the whirlwind chapter of his life where he was juggling Marty McFly, Alex P. Keaton, and, somehow, still being himself. Spoiler: that last part was a bit tricky.
He shared the news in an Instagram post (seen below) that gave fans a first look at what’s to come. And if you’ve ever wondered what it was like for Fox to balance two iconic roles at once, this is the deep dive you’ve been waiting decades for.
A Glimpse Into Michael J. Fox‘s World
The book, who’s cover reveals that Fox worked with Nelle Fortenberry to write it, drops in just over a month. In his caption, he teased: “I’m excited to give you a sneak peek at my forthcoming book Future Boy! In a little over one month, you’ll get to go back in time with me to recount my journey playing the roles of Marty McFly and Alex P. Keaton at the same time…”

“During three long months, I was Alex, I was Marty, and I was Mike. That’s two too many. In order to complete my work, at least one of them had to go, and Mike was the odd man out… This is the story of what happened during those busy months, when I completed the third season of Family Ties, while also filming Back to the Future… I was Alex P. Keaton during the day, and Marty McFly at night. The twenty-hour work days left little time to be me, Mike Fox. It has taken me four decades to piece it all together.”
It seems like years later, Fox is finally ready to let fans in on what really went down during his younger years on-screen and off. And it sounds like the perfect mix of honesty, humor, and heart; the kind of storytelling he has always been known for.
Fans Are All In
Honestly, the comments section was basically one big love letter. “OMG !!! 😍” one fan wrote, while another kept it short and sweet with, “Can’t wait! 👏.”
Others praised his legendary work ethic, with one noting, “You’re so hard working 😭 you did an amazing job! But you overworked yourself 😢 You were just human, not a machine. We love you Mikey, you legend ❤️.” Another fan added, “Can’t wait to read this! I remember when BTTF came out and you were talking about this. Much love to you and your family.”
And of course, some fans acknowledged how tough acting can really be: “The entertainment industry isn’t for the faint of heart and can be absolutely brutal. Thankful you’re still with us and gave us so many memorable movie moments.”
Why This One is Special
“Future Boy” isn’t just another Hollywood memoir. It’s Fox pulling the curtain back on a chapter that’s been talked about but never fully explored… until now. Fans have loved him for decades, but this is their chance to see what it really cost to bring both Alex and Marty to life.
And if the early reactions are anything to go by, this book is going to be just as iconic as the roles that made him a household name. Because let’s be real; when Michael J. Fox has something to say, we’re all listening.
