NASCAR Driver’s 4-Month-Old is Admitted to ICU: ‘Please, Please Pray’

Fans are rallying around the family of NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick after his wife, Alexa, shared via social media on September 28, 2025, that their four-month-old son had been admitted to a cardiovascular ICU in North Carolina.

“After a run around for months with the pediatrician office I knew what was going on was something bigger,” Alexa captioned photos with their son, Rookie, with an oxygen tube and monitors on his chest. “Always trust your mom gut. Our sweet Rookie was showing signs of heart failure that were being missed.”

Wife of NASCAR’s Tyler Reddick Requests Prayers for Their Son

The Reddicks have a five-year-old son Beau, and baby Rookie George was born on May 25, per Sports Illustrated. Alexa didn’t give specific details about the symptoms she noticed in Rookie that prompted her to seek medical help, but said in her social media post that he’d been admitted at Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.

“Please please pray for this sweet guy that God heals his heart,” she wrote. “With God, Rookie, and his amazing doctors here at Levine’s I believe He can. We are in the cardiovascular ICU while we get some answers and work on improving heart function. I usually don’t share our personal lives but I’m hoping you take the time to pray for him today. 💕”

On the same day his wife shared the news of their son’s health, Tyler placed seventh in a NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Kansas Speedway, according to Fox Sports.

“It’s difficult,” he told the outlet after the race. “It’s not what you want for your kids. As a father, my first son, [5-year-old Beau] has hit his head, bruised himself up, cut himself up. But what my son Rookie is going through is serious. It’s a tricky situation. More than anything, I’m just ready to get on a plane and go home.”

Why Didn’t Tyler Reddick Skip NASCAR Race While His Son Was in ICU?

According to Fox Sports, Tyler could have obtained NASCAR’s approval to skip the September 28 race and still be eligible to advance to the next round, but “the points lost likely would have put him in a must-win situation next week at the Charlotte road course.”

His seventh-place finish, however, put him 29 points below the cutline, the outlet said, so he now faces a “must-win” situation at the next race.

Tyler told Fox Sports he considered skipping, but said, “Thankfully, he’s doing well enough — I don’t know where to even classify it. I wouldn’t say (my missing the race) was off the table, depending on how things were going. But thankfully, he’s doing well enough to where me and my wife were on the same page about me staying.”

Fans and friends have flooded Alexa’s post with prayers and well-wishes, including Morgan Bell, the wife of fellow racer Christopher Bell. She wrote, “Oh my goodness.. Lord, please heal this sweet boy, watch over this family and give them strength to get through this time. ❤️”
