Nick Reiner is currently being charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances in the passing of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. He is being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles while he awaits his arraignment, which has been postponed to February.
And with that, TMZ is providing some new details on Nick’s mental state.
The outlet reports that Nick “doesn’t understand why he’s in jail,” with sources describing him as “delusional and believes the people who put him behind bars are engaged in a ‘conspiracy’ against him.”
Nick Reiner Is Being Held In The Mental Health Unit
At Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Nick is being held inside the high-observation mental health unit, where he is alone in a cell at all times, PEOPLE reports.
“The inmates [where he is located] have significant mental health illnesses and need to be kept alone and away from any other people or inmates,” a Los Angeles County sheriff source told the outlet.
Prior to his appearance in court on Jan. 7, PEOPLE reported that Nick is no longer on suicide watch, with the suicide-prevention smock that he was required to wear at all times being removed.
“He is still being monitored every 15 minutes and is being recorded when he exits his cell to go to court or for evaluations or other necessary requirements,” the sheriff source explained. “He is also evaluated each week by our medical professionals like psychiatrists on staff but he did not see one after court.”
New Source Provides Insight Into How Nick Reiner’s Siblings Feel About His Potential Plea
GettyWhen speaking with the U.S. Sun, a source explained how Nick’s brother and sister, Jake and Romy Reiner, do not want their brother to face the death penalty, adding that Nick’s death “won’t bring back Rob and Michele.”
“Rob and Michele’s family, despite everything, do not want Nick to get the death penalty, as they insist this horrific incident was the byproduct of a mental health crisis,” the family friend told the outlet, adding that Jake and Romy are okay with their brother pleading not guilty by reason of insanity at his upcoming arraignment on Feb. 23.
Nick was set to be arraigned on Jan. 7, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case, prompting it to be delayed once again.

So sad. My heart breaks for all of them. I’ve witnessed murder by knife to someone the guilty person loved deeply, but scared she washed hegoing to put him in an institution and preplanned to murder. My girlfriend died, his father had a heart attack. No survivors there.
