Beloved Golden Globe-Winning Actress Passes Away at 91: Tributes Pour In

Patricia Crowley, who was known for her roles in “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” and “Dynasty,” has passed away at the age of 91, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

She died from natural causes in Los Angeles, her son Jon Hookstratten, who serves as the Executive VP of Administration & Operations for Sony Pictures Entertainment, announced. Crowley tragically passed two days before her 92nd birthday.

She is survived by her husband, television producer and executive Andy Friendly, with the two having gotten married in 1986. She is also survived by her two children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Crowley was previously married to sports and entertainment attorney Ed Hookstratten.

Fans spoke highly of Crowley’s impressive career, paying tribute after her passing.

“Grace, grit, and generations of screens, Patricia Crowley didn’t just act, she anchored eras. What a legacy,” a fan said.

“Sad news to wake up to. Condolences to Patricia’s family,” one fan wrote.

Crowley’s acting career seemed written in the stars as she decided to follow her sister to New York City and went on to attend the High School of Performing Arts. She made her Broadway debut in 1950 in “Southern Exposure.”

Crowley starred in numerous different projects throughout her career, but one of her most well-known roles was Joan Nash in Please Don’t Eat the Daisies. The sitcom ran from 1965 to 1967, in which she portrayed a newspaper writer who was married to a college professor, and the couple had four boys. Oh, and you can’t forget about the family’s Old English sheepdog named Ladadog.

“I thought the writing was very intelligent and very sweet,” she told Pioneers of Television of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies in a past interview.

Crowley went on to have a recurring role in the sixth season of the ABC primetime soap Dynasty, starring as Emily Fallmont in 1986. Her time on Dynasty came to an end when her character was hit by a taxi and died.

She also won the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year for her performances in Forever Female and Money From Home in 1953.

She also had stints on The Twilight Zone, Friends, The Love Boat, General Hospital, and Beverly Hills, 90210, along with so many others. Her final onscreen appearance was in 2012 in the film Mont Reve.
