HBO Max’s “The Pitt” premiered in January 2024 and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. Now, a year later, the season of the show is set to premiere. Early reviews are out, and so far, critics are saying it’s just as good as the first season.
As fans know, “The Pitt” takes place at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital and consists of 15 episodes, each representing one hour of the hospital staff’s shift. The popular series stars Noah Wyle, Shawn Hatosy, Taylor Dearden, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, and Katherine LaNasa.
Season 2 of the hit series will premiere on January 8 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
Critics Are Loving ‘The Pitt’ Season 2
According to Film Updates on X, season two of “The Pitt” debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 100%. This is from critics who have seen a number of the 15 episodes from the second season ahead of its premiere.
Now that more critics have seen the season, it holds a 98% on the platform. This puts it fairly on par with season one.
One critic, M.N. Miller from FandomWire, said, “The Pitt returns with a second season that deepens its gritty, empathetic portrait of emergency medicine, balancing claustrophobic suspense with rare humanity. The writing rewards patience deeply, becoming enthralling, profound, and deeply moving.”
Katey Stoetzel said, “The Pitt Season 2 delivers on many fronts and expertly navigates the shifting dynamics of its doctors and nurses. Even if not much is going on, there’s something really comforting about being back at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.”
Zach Pope informed the number of episodes had been watched, saying, “The Pitt Season 2 is PERFECT so far (episodes 1-9 reviewed)”
Ben Gibbons from ScreenRant wrote of the show, “Once again, The Pitt proves it’s uniquely positioned as one of the most intense and impactful medical dramas on TV thanks to a spectacular cast, fast-moving story, and the incredible realism built in.”
Finally, Therese Lacson from Collider said, “The Pitt Season 2 ultimately doubles down on what made the series good when it first premiered — more heartfelt moments between the staff and their patients, more heart-pounding cases, and more surprise twists…”
What is Season 2 About?
According to The Wrap, season 2 of “The Pitt” will feature the medical professionals working during the Fourth of July Holiday, a time known for an increased number of incidents. As the trailer says, this will be Wyly’s character’s last shift before a “little sabbatical.”
It’s also currently known that the show will heavily focus on Ball’s character, who returns after the events of the show’s first season.
R. Scott Genmill, the showrunner for “The Pitt,” spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the show. He said, “Having Langdon come back has more impact in some ways, because Robby doesn’t want that. So having Langdon coming back, as opposed to Collins coming back, is unfortunate, because it leaves him in the lurch. If she were to come back, she just goes back to work.
Langdon coming back, it puts Robby in a real awkward spot, because he needs him. He needs his extra set of hands and his medical prowess. But on the other hand, he also knows that he’s a drug addict. And so if something goes wrong and it gets out that Robby let the drug addict work. Even during the mass casualty, it could be his career.”
