“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Ashley Darby opened up about her divorce and admitted how her and her ex-husband Michael Darby struggled initially when learning how to navigate co-parenting together.
Ashley & Michael Remain Dedicated to Their Children
No matter what was going on in their marriage, one thing never changed for the couple: Ashley and Michael were always a united front for their sons, Dean and Dylan. In an exclusive interview with Bravo for The Daily Dish, Ashley revealed that it was initially difficult to navigate their new normal, but they have since become much better communicators since their divorce was finalized back in February.
“It’s going so much better than it was before,” the “RHOP” star said. “We definitely had some growing pains, I think with the new change of being separated and now divorced, but we’re communicating so much better.”
Even their sons have noticed that things have started to get better. “Now they’re at this age where they’re like, ‘oh mommy and daddy hug,’” Ashley said. “And they sort of force us to hug, which we’ll do because we want to show them that we still care about each other and that they were really conceived and raised with love. So, we’ll give a hug every now and again when we need to, and that’s a big advancement from where we used to be.”
Ashley Gives an Adorable Update on Her Sons
Ashley and Michael welcomed their first son, Dean, about five years after they got married. In 2021, she gave birth to their second child, Dylan.
“Dean is in first grade. So he’s actually in big school,” Ashley told Bravo, noting that he was previously in a Montessori school. “So he sort of was the big fish in the small pond. And now he’s in a bigger pond. And he’s flourishing so beautifully.”
Ashley gushes about how Dean has become quite the “Lego master.”
“He does every Lego. There’s no Lego that’s too hard for him,” she said. “He does the 18-year-old ones; he does the 3,000-piece Legos. I mean, he’s 6 years old and he just sits in a corner and does these incredible Lego creations.”
Ashley revealed that young Dylan has also taken an interest in the toys, so much so that her living room is now a “museum of all their Lego creations.”
“He’s following in his brother’s footsteps with everything creative,” she said. “And Dean, he’s like a little human calculator, so he’s always doing math and engineering. It’s definitely in his DNA from his dad.”
Ashley has posted her sons Dean and Dylan on her Instagram before, giving “RHOP” fans a sweet glimpse into their life as a family.
