Shortly after TMZ broke the news of Robert’s passing, revealing that he died in Utah on Monday, February 23, Mary broke her silence with a statement, which she posted on Instagram. “Our beloved son Robert Cosby Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” she wrote. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

Fans have flooded the post’s comments, including many “Real Housewives” stars. Among the most-liked comments is one from Richards, who has been a part of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” since 2010. “Mary, I am so very sorry for your unimaginable loss. I’m holding you in my thoughts and prayers. We are here for you and sending so much love,” she shared. Her comment has received thousands of likes from fans who agree with her message.

Robert Jr.’s cause of death is unclear, “but police responded to a possible overdose, and it turned into a death investigation upon arrival,” TMZ reports. He had his problems, some of which played out publicly, including addressing his struggles with addiction. Robert Jr. had also been arrested and served time.

Mary discussed her decision to let these personal scenes air on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.” In an interview with Today in January 2025, she said, “It’s a fine line between putting your kids out there and then protecting them. It was just something that I questioned all the way up until it aired.”

Mary loved her son deeply and showed her support for him in an Instagram post on February 7. “#godfirst Love you all My Beautiful Son.. I love him sm,” she captioned a photo of Robert Jr. At the time, fans showed their support for Mary, but now they are leaving their heartfelt condolences on this post, the final one of her son.
