By all accounts, General Hospital is headed toward an explosive summer. With Michael (Rory Gibson) callously seeking to ruin his cousin Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) marriage to Chase (Josh Swickard), the walls closing in on Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), Carly (Laura Wright) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) heating up, and Jason (Steve Burton) on his way back to soap’s canvas, there’s much to talk about. And speaking of Sidwell and Cullum, let’s zero in on Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), who now sits at the mercy of the duo.
Josslyn Has Needed Help for Years
ABCEDEN MCCOY
Mini Carly has been out of control for over a year. At first, it was easy to understand that she was just stricken with grief after Cyrus (Jeff Kober) murdered Dex (Evan Hofer). This marked the second time the “love of her life” died at a young age, and she didn’t adequately get to mourn since she put herself on the hunt to find his killer. On top of that, shortly thereafter, Michael was caught in an almost deadly explosion.
However, after Brennan (Chris L. McKenna) led her down a path of vengeance and Josslyn ultimately killed Cyrus as revenge, she has become an entirely different person. Brennan then essentially manipulated her into joining the WSB. Now, she’s become distant, even more callous than Michael, and dare I say, unbearable.
The way Josslyn talks to Carly these days is rather dismissive and condescending. It’s as if Josslyn is the parent here. Josslyn has also been running around as if she’s the WSB agent who is always the smartest and toughest person in the room. She’s been an agent for like a year, so how she behaves this way is baffling. Heck, you would think her being kidnapped by Cassius (Ryan Paevey) would humble her a bit, but that couldn’t be further from the case.
And let’s address the Sonny (Maurice Benard) of it all. Her obsession with wanting to take Sonny down is exhausting to watch and a bit out of left field. Yes, she was not happy with him for cheating on her mother with Nina (Cynthia Watros), and she blames him for Morgan’s (Bryan Craig) death and Michael’s near-death experiences. Oh, and she was enraged when the Dimpled Kingpin beat up Dex while off his bipolar medication. But she agreed not too long ago to at the very least be cordial with Sonny for her siblings’ sake. Plus, she’s ignoring the fact that she very much viewed Sonny as a father figure for years.
With all that being said, Josslyn could use some guidance ASAP to get her life back on track. Thankfully for her, there is one person who could provide this, and it’s about time he returns to the show.
Recast Jax and Bring Him Back to General Hospital
ABC(ABC/Todd Wawrychuk)
INGO RADEMACHER, EDEN MCCOY
Last played by Ingo Rademacher, Jasper Jacks (Jax), Josslyn’s father, hasn’t been spotted on General Hospital since 2021. He was last seen fleeing Port Charles after alienating a number of people in town. Now, in real life, Rademacher was let go from the series following his unwillingness to comply with the COVID vaccine mandate ABC had at the time, along with some transphobic remarks. So it’s unlikely for ABC to bring back Rademacher. But why not recast the character?
Look, Jax blowing back through town to help guide his daughter would be compelling to see, especially if he’s the one to convince her to quit the WSB and provide her with a pathway to a different career.
Additionally, with the Sidwell storyline hopefully dying down, Jax’s return provides Sonny with a familiar and fierce adversary. Jax has never liked Sonny and was not happy when Sonny last plotted against him and had him deported back to Australia. How interesting could it be to watch Jax scheme against Sonny for payback (in a non-Sidwell way)? Jax could really aim to take Sonny down so his daughter can focus on other endeavors.
It’s also worth mentioning that Jax’s return would throw a huge wrench in Carly and Valentin’s romantic future. Can you imagine the banter over Carly that could occur with Valentin and the right Jax recast? Daytime gold, pure gold. Let’s see if ABC opts to bring Jax back to General Hospital in the near future.
