“GH” stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson took to their Stone Cold and the Jackal social media accounts to share an “On This Day In Soap Opera History” post with “General Hospital” fans.
The duo wrote, “2003: With cancer-stricken Emily hanging on by a thread (or so the doctors supposed), she and Zander wed in her hospital room with Elizabeth, Lucky, and Gia as witnesses. Unbeknownst to the betrotheds, lovelorn Nikolas watched the ceremony being performed.”
The simple blast-from-the-past post quickly had fans talking, with many calling for the return of Natalia Livingston as Emily Quartermaine to Port Charles.
However, there is one major problem: Emily was killed off nearly two decades ago. But as longtime soap fans know, death isn’t definitive when it comes to daytime television.
Read on to see why “General Hospital” fans think it may be time for Emily Quartermaine to make her return.
Emily and Zander’s Wedding Has ‘General Hospital’ Fans Looking Back
The throwback shared by Burton and Anderson took fans all the way back to 2003, when Emily and Zander Smith tied the knot in her hospital room as she battled cancer.
However, Emily’s story would eventually come to a tragic end. Livingston’s character was killed off the show on Halloween 2007.
Emily Quartermaine was killed by serial killer Diego Alcazar, shortly after her engagement to Nikolas Cassadine.
As longtime “General Hospital” fans may remember, Nikolas later tracked down Diego. The two men engaged in a scuffle, and Diego eventually died.
Still, as soap fans know, death has a way of being temporary on daytime television. So, just because Emily was presumed dead nearly two decades ago doesn’t necessarily mean she could never find her way back to Port Charles.
And plenty of “GH” fans made it clear that they think it’s high time Emily’s return becomes a reality.
Fans Want Emily Quartermaine Back in Port Charles
The nostalgic post had several fans remembering just how much they loved Emily and Livingston’s portrayal of the longtime “GH” character.
“I wish that General Hospital had not killed Emily off. Loved Emily, especially when she and Nikolas were together. Still miss her,” one fan wrote.
Another fan added, “I loved Emily. She was a great character!!! The actress was awesome!!!”
“I loved Emily/Natalia. She and Nikolas truly loved each other,” another person commented.
Another fan simply wrote, “Miss Emily!”
However, Emily wasn’t the only character from the throwback who fans would like to see again.
Some ‘General Hospital’ Fans Are Still Missing Zander
While many “General Hospital” fans focused on Emily, others admitted they miss Zander even more.
“I miss Zander. He was just so cute and sweet, even when he went over to the dark side,” one fan wrote.
Another commented, “I adored Zander. I never forgave Emily for dumping him. Lol!”
“Missed that era,” another fan added, while someone else simply wrote, “Love Zander.”
Not everyone was a fan of how Zander’s story played out, either, with one viewer writing, “I hated how the characters of Zander, Courtney, Mary Bishop, Lydia and many others got sacrificed for the love story of Nikolas and Emily. I hated how Emily treated Zander.”
While Emily never had any children, Zander did. Elizabeth Webber’s oldest son, Cameron Webber, is Zander Smith’s son, giving the late character a lasting connection to Port Charles.
Whether Emily, Zander, or even both characters could somehow return remains to be seen. But more than two decades after Emily and Zander’s hospital-room wedding, it’s clear that both characters and that era of “General Hospital” still hold a special place in the hearts of longtime fans.
