This Classic 1995 ‘General Hospital’ Storyline Still Has Fans Talking

Some soap opera weddings are quickly forgotten, while others remain fan favorites for decades. Over three decades after Ned Quartermaine and Lois Cerullo tied the knot on “General Hospital,” fans are once again reminiscing about the beloved storyline.

The renewed interest is thanks to a recent throwback post from Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson’s “Stone Cold and the Jackal” social media account. The post sparked memories of the iconic Brooklyn wedding and even led fans to revisit the real-life romance between the actors who portrayed the popular couple.

Read on to discover more about what happened on this day in Port Charles circa 1995.

‘General Hospital’ Fans Remember Ned And Lois’ Brooklyn Wedding

“General Hospital” stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson have built a loyal following through their podcast and social media brand, “Stone Cold and the Jackal.” When the actors aren’t appearing on-screen as Jason Morgan and Damian Spinelli, they frequently share behind-the-scenes memories and classic moments from the soap’s history.

On their Instagram account, Stone Cold and the Jackal, the duo posted a throwback from June 1, 1995. They captioned their post, “On This Day In GENERAL HOSPITAL History,” continuing with, “1995: Ned and Lois were married in Brooklyn, NY.”

As some longtime “General Hospital” viewers may remember, Ned Quartermaine (formerly Ashton) and Lois Cerullo were tying the knot in Lois’s hometown. The wedding remains one of the most beloved romantic moments from the 1990s era of the soap and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of many fans.

Fans Share Memories Of The Classic Soap Wedding

The nostalgic post quickly sparked discussion among longtime viewers, many of whom fondly remembered the wedding episode and the impact it had on the show.

One fan pondered, “I wondered if that’s how Brook Lynn got her name?” On the soap, Ned and Lois share a daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine, who is currently married to Harrison Chase and is in the process of adopting baby Phoebe.

Other fans quickly set the record straight. With one writing, “Yes, that is actually how Brooklyn got her name!” And another chiming in with, “Yes, Lois chose her name because that’s where she was from.”

Another fan reminisced about the onscreen moment, writing, “This was a wonderful episode, very joyful. I remember them running through the Brooklyn neighborhood, and all the neighbors and friends came out.”

Many fans shared similar sentiments, with one writing, “This was the BEST GH wedding ever!!! My all-time favorite.”

Another fan added, “Lois is awesome. She and Wally were married once in real life, too, but divorced.”

Wally Kurth And Rena Sofer’s Real-Life Romance Extended Beyond Port Charles

Indeed, the actors who have portrayed Ned Quartermaine and Lois Cerullo were briefly married in real life. Soap star Wally Kurth began portraying Ned in 1991. He has also been a staple on “Days of Our Lives,” having played Justin Kiriakis since 1987.

In 1995, Kurth married his “GH” co-star Rena Sofer, who portrayed his on-screen love interest, Lois Cerullo. The former couple welcomed their daughter, Rosabel Rosalind Kurth-Sofer, in September 1996, before divorcing in 1997. Their daughter Rosabel is an artist, who shares her artwork on her Instagram account: Rosabel Rosalind.

Kurth has been married to his wife, Debra Yuhasz, since July 2003. They share a son, Brogan, who was born in November 2004. In addition to Rosabel and Brogan, Kurth is also a father to Meghann Kurth, who was born in 1985.

Soap star Rena Sofer also found love after her brief marriage to her “GH” co-star, marrying director and producer Sanford Bookstaver in 2003. The couple welcomed a daughter, Avalon, in 2005. While Sofer and Bookstaver divorced in 2017, in soap opera fashion, they eventually reconciled and remarried in 2024.

More than three decades after Ned and Lois said “I do” in Brooklyn, the wedding continues to stand out as one of the soap’s most memorable romantic milestones.

Judging by the reaction to Stone Cold and the Jackal’s throwback post, many fans still look back on the episode with fondness. From the origins of Brook Lynn’s name to the real-life romance between the actors who portrayed the couple, the storyline remains a beloved part of Port Charles history.
