Production on “Survivor Greece” has reportedly been put on pause after contestant Stavros Floros suffered a serious injury during a spearfishing accident while filming in the Dominican Republic.
According to multiple reports, Floros, 21, was injured during a break from filming near Saona Island when a tourist boat allegedly struck him while he was diving in an area commonly used by passing vessels.
Authorities cited by the Toronto Sun said Floros sustained severe injuries to his legs from the boat’s propellers, including significant trauma to his right ankle and injuries to his left leg.
Production company AcunMedya later confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
“From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant,” the company said in a statement shared by multiple outlets.
The statement added that local port authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
‘Survivor Greece’ Production and Broadcast Were Paused
Following the incident, Greek broadcaster SKAI TV confirmed that the current season of “Survivor Greece” has been paused while Floros continues receiving medical treatment.
“SKAI is closely monitoring the progress of the participant’s health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment,” the network reportedly said in a statement.
The broadcaster also noted that filming and broadcast activities connected to the season would remain paused until the investigation is completed.
According to statements released by AcunMedya, Floros remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is no longer considered to be in immediate danger.
As news of the accident spread online, many reality television fans expressed support for Floros and his recovery across social media.
Neither Floros nor representatives for “Survivor Greece” have publicly commented further as of publication.
The ‘Survivor’ Franchise Has Faced Medical Emergencies Before
Over the years, contestants across various international versions of “Survivor” have faced difficult medical situations during filming.
During “Survivor 49,” contestant Jake Latimer was medically evacuated after suffering a bite from a poisonous sea snake while standing in shallow water off the coast of Fiji. He later recovered following treatment.
More recently, “Survivor 50” contestant Kyle Fraser revealed he exited the game early after rupturing his Achilles tendon during an immunity challenge.
Host Jeff Probst has also spoken publicly about the physical and mental intensity contestants face while competing on the long-running reality series.
“What any evacuation says about this game is that it’s real,” Probst previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “For anyone who still wonders, that was a real sea krait, that was a real bite, and that was a very terrifying situation.”
While the incident involving Floros reportedly happened away from an official challenge, the accident has renewed discussion among fans about the unpredictable risks surrounding survival-based reality television productions.
