WATCH: Jeff Probst Performs Original ‘Survivor’-Themed Rock Song LIVE Ahead of Season 50 Premiere

While Jeff Probst is primarily known for his role as the longtime host and executive producer of “Survivor,” his status as an avid rock-and-roll fan is similarly well-documented.

Shortly before joining the crew of the hit CBS reality competition series, Probst launched his hosting career with a three-year stint on VH1’s “Rock & Roll Jeopardy!” from 1998 to 2001.

In the years since, Probst’s passion for music has taken a back seat to his passion for “Survivor,” though it’s never disappeared completely. A fact that the illustrious host proved during his appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday (Feb. 24).

Probst Opens Up About Recording His First-Ever ‘Survivor’ Song

Prior to his performance, Probst opened up about the inspiration behind the song’s creation ahead of Season 50, telling Fallon, “Okay, here’s the deal for real. Why would [I] do that? It’s ridiculous and over the top, but I was thinking of ‘Survivor 50’ and ‘The Super Bowl Shuffle’ that the Chicago Bears did, and I thought, ‘I’m going to die one day. I want to do the things I want to do. I want to write a rock song.’”

The longtime host went on to describe how he’d recorded the anthem at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, where Probst lives with his wife, Lisa Ann Russell, and his two stepchildren, Michael and Ava.

“Now it’s [called] Chaplin Studio” Probst said, adding, “It’s one of the most legendary rock recording studios in the world.”

Speaking further on the recording experience, Probst told Fallon, “I’m not kidding, it was one of the highlights of my life.”

The track has since been added to a dedicated “Survivor 50” playlist on Spotify, which similarly features chart-toppers hand-selected by the new season’s 24 returning players. Including songs like “Heroes” by Billie Joe Armstrong & Jakob Armstrong, “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child, and “Lose Yourself” by Eminem.

Fans can check out the full playlist here, which will offer the perfect accompaniment to any “Survivor 50” premiere watch party as the milestone season airs its unprecedented three-hour long first episode tonight, Wednesday, February 25, starting at 8:00pm ET, exclusively on CBS.
