Taylor Swift revealed her team’s reaction to one of her vocalists, Jeslyn Gorman, receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. In a recent episode of Swift’s documentary series, “The End of an Era,” which follows the star throughout her Eras Tour, the pop star shared the heavy story about Gorman.
Swift explained that learning of Gorman’s diagnosis was “the first blow that the tour family experienced emotionally.” In “The End of an Era,” the cast and crew of the tour emphasized just how close-knit the team is, noting that they spend plenty of time together both on and off stage.
Gorman’s Diagnosis was ‘Completely Unfathomable’
Gorman’s reveal was devastating to Swift and her team as the blonde songstress recalled that everyone was “in shambles” when they learned the news.
“It was, like, completely unfathomable to us,” said Swift.
“When I let Taylor know, she came storming in with hugs and crying and saying ‘I’m so sorry,’” she said of Swift’s reaction to her diagnosis.
Swift described her vocalist as “one of the most talented, resilient, loving people I’ve ever been around.”
Gorman Learned to Adapt on Tour
Because Gorman was diagnosed with breast cancer while the Eras Tour was in full swing, she was forced to take a brief hiatus. She stayed off the stage between August 2023 and mid-2024, returning after successfully undergoing treatments.
“While on tour I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Gorman, “Obviously, it was devastating, but every weekend, we had a show.”
She explained that in the earlier stages of her diagnosis, she would fly back and forth from Eras shows to Los Angeles, where she was “poked and prodded” to learn how best to proceed with treatment.
Eventually, Gorman was forced to take a six-month break from the Eras tour to undergo more intense treatments like chemotherapy and surgery. She returned in high spirits.
“I cannot believe she was back in a few months,” remarked Swift, “the will to come back and do the hardest show ever, none of us could believe it. I still can’t.”
Gorman Celebrated Taylor’s 36th Birthday
Gorman recently celebrated the pop star’s 36th birthday, which Swift spent in Kansas City alongside her fiancé, Travis Kelce, on social media. Gorman wrote a touching caption beneath a photo of herself and Swift, sharing the post to Instagram.
“Another dazzling year, my friend. Watching you grow is such a gift in itself. I know I have such a unique and special view, and I’ll never take it for granted,” she wrote.
Gorman has been performing alongside Swift since her Reputation Tour in 2018.
“You have a rare way of being soft without shrinking and bold without losing grace. Your gentleness is felt in the smallest moments, and your courage shows in every boundary you push,” she continued.
In “The End of an Era,” Gorman shared that Swift introduced her to friends at a previous birthday party by saying, “This is Jeslyn, we sing together!” Gorman laughed at Swift’s phrasing, while the pop star quipped, “That’s exactly what it is!”
Gorman concluded her Instagram post with a heartfelt well-wish for her colleague and friend, “To a friend whose presence is kind, and whose path is anything but small – may this next year meet you with the same care and courage you give to everything you do. Happy Birthday to someone who proves that tenderness and triumph can live side by side. I love you, T.”
