Eliminated ‘The Amazing Race’ Team Reveals Hidden Injury Viewers Never Saw

Turns out, the toughest challenge on “The Amazing Race” season 38 wasn’t one viewers ever saw. After their elimination from the show, newlyweds Megan and Matt Turner revealed that Megan suffered a painful injury during filming, and it never even made it to air. Despite pushing through the grueling European leg with a cracked rib, Megan kept racing, determined not to let it show.

Fighting From the Back of the Pack

This season of “The Amazing Race” has been a crossover with “Big Brother,” as the teams consist of former houseguests. Matt appeared on “Big Brother” 24, but he quickly found himself fighting at the back of the pack during his time on “The Amazing Race” 2025.

Foot races to the Pit Stop to check in with host Phil Keoghan during the premiere and week 2 kept the newlyweds in the game. However, their luck ran out during week 3, when Phil met them in a field to tell them they had been eliminated from the competition.

Wrong Directions Took Them Out

During that last leg of the race for Megan & Matt, we saw Matt complete the first Road Block, and they were neck-and-neck with Kat & Alex. However, misdirections took them out of the race. They ended up in an IKEA parking lot and not at a farm.

In an interview with Parade, Megan said “it was purely just directions,” and Phil joked they were “just strolling around Prague in the Czech Republic,” but she said, “That’s exactly what we did!”

Matt added that they went to the place they were supposed to go from the directions they were given, but the directions sent them to the wrong place. Where did they end up?

Matt said, “It was an IKEA an hour and a half in the wrong direction. We were in the IKEA parking lot, being like, ‘This can’t be right. This isn’t a farm.’”

An Injury We Never Saw

While it was a bumpy ride for Megan & Matt on the show, it looks like when things finally came to an end, Megan took a tumble that wasn’t aired on the show.

Megan told Parade, “When I walked away, I tripped and fell at the last very second. I actually cracked a rib there. And I was bedridden for like a month. Yeah, that’s a fun little detail.”

It looks like if Phil would have surprised them with a non-elimination leg of “The Amazing Race,” Megan wouldn’t have been able to continue anyway.

Matt’s Fitness Journey

Since being on the show, Matt talked about being on his own fitness journey. Megan may have been bedridden for a month, but he was out working off some extra weight.

He told Parade, “When I ran the race, I was 200 pounds. I’m not a 200-pound guy. I was huge for me.”

Matt said that’s the least in shape he’s ever been in life, but the show was a “reality check that I should get in shape.” That is exactly what he’s done. Matt added, “So I’ve lost 36 pounds, I think, now. But I think that was the best thing I got from the race was the training after it ended.”

“The Amazing Race” season 38 airs on Wednesday nights at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
