With season 4 of “The Traitors” right around the corner, viewers will soon find out exactly who Alan Cumming has selected as the Traitors who will secretly murder their fellow contestants in the castle’s turret.
The cast of the new series, though, has already made their pitches for why they should be chosen as a Traitor while speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the airing of the first episode.
‘The Traitors’ Season 4 Cast Members Explain Why They Want To Be a Traitor
There are two types of players on “The Traitors” — the Faithful and the Traitors. Only a select few are chosen to take up the role of a Traitor but they wield a lot of power and that means that many players want to get that tap of the shoulder from Cumming at the first round table.
In the case of Candiace Dillard Bassett, she is interested in being given the opportunity to be evil. “But being a Traitor is about treachery and dishonesty and being an [expletive],” she said. “And if I can be a [expletive] with a smile, why would I deny myself the honor?”
Caroline Stanbury believes that she has what it takes to be a cold and logical Traitor. “I am able to make difficult decisions, and I think a lot of people can’t make those decisions,” she explains. “They’re very run by their emotions. I think I am able to make decisions based on the immediate issues that we have and look at the long term goal rather than get so emotionally involved in saving your friends or your people or the people you like.”
For Donna Kelce, it would be fun to get to be a sinister villain and she thinks that she might be able to avoid detection as she has spent her “whole life [as a] kind mother, motivating, with good principles and values.”
Dorinda Medley expressed a desire simply to make it to the first proper round table and not be murdered on the first night.
Singer Eric Nam feels that many of the cast won’t recognize him, allowing him to “be very under the radar, at least in the beginning, get a good read on everybody, and then play their strengths and weaknesses to the best of my ability.”
Irish reality star Maura Higgins wants to be a Traitor because she thinks she “would have way more fun” and Lisa Rinna has a simple explanation, saying, “I just think I would be a great Traitor because I’m Lisa [expletive] Rinna.” Meanwhile, Rob Rausch agrees with Higgins, saying that being a Traitor “just seems more fun.”
A Few Players Don’t Want To Be a Traitor in Season 4
Not everyone taking part is thrilled about the chance of being chosen as a Traitor, though, despite the power that comes with it. “Dancing With the Stars” alumni Mark Ballas simply doesn’t believe he has the right skills for the job.
“I think being picked as a Traitor is very, like, big fish out of water for me,” Ballas explains. “Like, I’m not a good liar, I don’t feel like I’m a deceptive person, I wear my heart on my sleeve, I try to have great communications with my friends and family, I don’t like people to be hurt, or I’m very sensitive to people’s feelings.”
Stephen Colletti is largely on the same page as Ballas. “I want to be a Faithful,” he said. “I do not want to spend the entire game deceiving everyone, lying to everyone, I’m not a good liar, so I think I’m best served as a Faithful. I want to be a Faithful, I’m here to be a Faithful, and the Faithfuls will win this game.”
Tara Lipinski is also adamant that she would work best as a Faithful. “Don’t pick me to be a Traitor, I really want to be a Faithful,” she revealed. “I feel like my background as an athlete, being part of a team, part of Team USA, representing your country — I feel like I have the tools in my toolbox to succeed in that area, and I also just feel like it goes against everything that I am to be a Traitor and start lying to people. We want the Faithfuls to win, so I want to be on the winning team.”
