Jinger Duggar is opening up about how her holiday traditions have shifted over nearly a decade, revealing that she hasn’t spent Christmas day with her family in nine years.
The “Counting On” alum shared candid reflections about how family celebrations have evolved as her life and priorities have changed, especially since marrying Jeremy Vuolo in 2016 and starting her own family.
Ahead of the 2025 holiday season, Jinger, 32, explained on her podcast, which she shares with her husband, that being away on Christmas has been difficult, but also meaningful in its own way.
Jinger Is Going Back This Christmas
“We have not been back to the Duggar house since we’ve been married, in nine years, for Christmas, and we’re going this year,” Vuolo said, to which Jinger added, “It’s exciting.”
She stated that it is the only day that the Vuolo’s family is all together, as she added that the Duggar’s are “always together a lot.”
“It’s easy for us just to pop back,” Jinger noted. “We went back one year, three times in one year, for weddings.
She added, “So you’re like, ‘Oh, we weren’t there for the holidays,’ but we were there for multiple weddings.”
But it’s all about to change as she will be spending Christmas with her family this year. She added that she really wanted her daughters to experience a “Duggar family Christmas.”
She shares Felicity and Evangeline with Vuelo, as well as a son named Finnegan Charles.
Born into the famously large Duggar clan, Jinger grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins, and family traditions that often centered around her family’s home state.
What’s a Duggar Christmas?
Jinger went on the explain what the holiday is like at the family’s home.
“Back when I was at the big house, there were some years where we’d be like, everybody has to wait. We go down together, and then it’s a free-for-all all, and everybody just opens gifts, and it’s chaos,” she explained.
But she said that each year is slightly different. She remembers times when everyone was waiting, as each person opened gifts one at a time.
“They either start from the oldest and go down or start from the youngest and go up,” Jinger said. And she added it took hours, as there were also nieces and nephews present.
“I don’t know what they do now,” Jinger added. “We’re going to be excited to jump in and see.”
She added that a gift exchange is also going to happen this year, and she is buying gifts for her sister Jana. Meanwhile, Vuelo drew his father-in-law, Jim Bob.
