David Arquette is remembering his former “Scream 4” co-star Hayden Panettiere following her death at 36.
The actor shared an emotional tribute to Panettiere after news of her passing broke over the weekend. Arquette first commented on an Instagram post announcing the actress’ death, keeping his message short but heartfelt.
“💔I love you Hayden 🕊️” he wrote.
Arquette Shared a Second Tribute
Arquette later shared another tribute on his Instagram Stories, sending his condolences to Panettiere’s loved ones while reflecting on the person he knew.
“Sending my love to Hayden and her family. She was such a brave and brilliant soul,” Arquette wrote.
He also shared the cover of Panettiere’s memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” which was released earlier this year.
Panettiere and Arquette worked together on “Scream 4,” the 2011 installment of the popular horror franchise. Panettiere portrayed Kirby Reed, while Arquette reprised his role as Dewey Riley.
Panettiere’s death was announced Sunday by her representative in a statement released on behalf of her father, Alan Panettiere.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the statement said, describing her as “an incredible light and a force of nature” who brought love and joy to those around her.
Why We Know So Far
Panettiere was found unresponsive at a home in South Carolina on Sunday, according to reports.
Page Six reported that 911 dispatch audio characterized the incident as an overdose. Her official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
The actress is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, whom she welcomed in 2014 with her former fiancé, retired heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. Kaya lives with her father.
Panettiere’s death also comes more than three years after the death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere. He died in February 2023 at age 28 from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Panettiere began acting professionally as a child, appearing on ABC’s “One Life to Live” before joining CBS’ “Guiding Light.” Her early work eventually led to major television roles and international recognition.
She became a household name after landing the role of Claire Bennet on NBC’s “Heroes.” Her character was a high school cheerleader with the ability to heal herself, making Panettiere one of the show’s breakout stars.
She later took on another signature role as country singer Juliette Barnes on ABC’s “Nashville.” Panettiere starred in the musical drama from 2012 to 2018 and received two Golden Globe nominations for her performance.
Her film credits also included “Remember the Titans,” “Scream 4” and “Scream VI.” She returned as Kirby in the latter film in 2023, marking her first major acting role in several years.
Panettiere also opened up about her personal life and struggles in “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” The memoir offered a candid look at her experiences in Hollywood and beyond.
As tributes continue to pour in, Arquette’s message offers another glimpse at the impact Panettiere had on those who worked alongside her, remembering the actress not only for her talent but for the person behind the performances.
