‘Liar Liar’ Child Star Who Played Jim Carrey’s Son: See What He Looks Like Now

Justin Cooper is looking back at his time on the set of “Liar Liar.” The former 90s child star played Max Reede, the son of Jim Carrey’s character, in the 1997 blockbuster. Nearly three decades later, Justin Cooper has shared fond memories of working with the comedy star. Similarly, “Everybody Loves Raymond” child star Madylin Sweeten recalled her happy childhood on set.

Justin Cooper Recalls Jim Carrey

According to Hello!, Justin Cooper recently discussed his childhood career in a rare interview with “The Not So Little Rascals” podcast. He remembered Carrey warmly. “It was fun working with Carrey,” Cooper said. He also called it “a great experience” to be around the actor and watch him work.

Cooper said Carrey “was goofy all the time.” For a young actor, that made working alongside one of Hollywood’s biggest comedy stars a memorable experience.

The podcast interview also revisited how Cooper first met Carrey. He was standing in line at a Kinko’s when his mother received word that Carrey wanted to meet him. The meeting was important because the two actors needed to make sure they clicked before filming began.

He recalled visiting Carrey’s home before filming. He immediately noticed a Riddler costume displayed on the wall.

Justin Cooper remembered Carrey asking whether he wanted to see something cool. The actor then revealed that he had a Batmobile in his backyard. The Batmobile was not quite the full-size movie vehicle a young fan might imagine. In the podcast, Cooper explained that it was a coin-operated ride-on Batmobile. Even so, the memory clearly stayed with him.

Justin Cooper Looks Back on “Liar Liar”

As reported in the Hello! article, the success of “Liar Liar” brought intense attention to Cooper. He recalled fans approaching his family for autographs when they went out to eat.

Cooper said the attention sometimes became “scary.” His mother helped shield him from some of the stranger parts of fame. He later learned that she had intercepted prison mail that had been sent to him.

Despite those experiences, Cooper still looks back at “Liar Liar” with gratitude and has spoken positively about the people he worked with. His memories of Carrey remain especially warm.

Justin Cooper continued acting through his early teens. He appeared in shows including “Boy Meets World,” “ER” and “The Practice,” and the 1998 comedy film “Dennis the Menace Strikes Again.”

He eventually moved away from acting and pursued sports broadcasting. Cooper later became an executive sports producer and radio personality for Fox Sports Radio.

A Lasting Jim Carrey Memory

For Cooper, the memories of “Liar Liar” are about more than the film’s success. They include watching Jim Carrey work and seeing his personality away from the cameras.

Justin Cooper’s simple description may say the most about their time together. “He was goofy all the time,” Cooper recalled. That is the side of the “Liar Liar” star that has stayed with him decades later. Meanwhile, Cary Elwes has an equally memorable family connection to his hit movie “The Princess Bride.”

The full interview offers even more stories from Cooper’s years as a child actor. Watch the video below for his memories of making “Liar Liar” and working alongside Jim Carrey.
