Taylor Sheridan has delivered hit after hit for Paramount+, and “Landman” has quickly become one of the streamer’s biggest success stories. The neo-Western drama stars Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a West Texas oilman who begins the series as a landman and later becomes president of M-Tex Oil.
Season 2 ended on Sunday, Jan. 18, with major changes for Tommy’s career and personal life — including a bold business move that could set up the central conflict of season 3. Here’s everything we know about “Landman” season 3 so far, including renewal news, what the finale set up, and what cast members have said about the show’s future.
‘Landman’ Season 3 Renewal Confirmed by Paramount+
Yes — “Landman” will return for season 3. Paramount+ announced the renewal on Dec. 5, less than three weeks after season 2 premiered.
The streamer also highlighted strong viewership. The season 2 premiere drew more than 9.2 million viewers in its first two days, marking a 262% increase over the season 1 premiere. The series has been a top performer among Paramount+ originals and currently ranks as the No. 1 show on the Nielsen streaming charts.
Ali Larter, who plays Tommy’s ex-wife Angela Norris, celebrated the renewal on Instagram, writing: “So excited to announce we are coming back for season 3! Thank you to the fans that have made Landman such a massive success. Honored to work on this show with such exceptional actors and crew. Heart is full.”
Showrunner Christian Wallace Addresses Taylor Sheridan Exit Rumors
Some viewers questioned the show’s future after Sheridan announced he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal. That news sparked speculation about several of his Paramount+ series, including “Landman.”
However, co-creator and showrunner Christian Wallace told ScreenRant that the show’s plan remains unchanged.
“We still have a lot of runway,” Wallace said. “We’re just going to keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing. Nothing at all has changed, so that’s for a future person to worry about.”
“The thing about this show is there are so many ways that this can go, and the world is so vast and big… we’re two seasons in and we’ve barely skimmed the surface.”
‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Ending Sets Up Season 3 Conflict
The season 2 finale closes several storylines while laying new groundwork for the Norris family.
Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) starts college and struggles early to adjust — including her first cheer practice — but ends the episode gaining confidence and building friendships.
Meanwhile, Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) becomes a central focus after he attacks a man who attempted to sexually assault Ariana Medina (Paulina Chavez). When Cooper and Ariana report the assault to the police, investigators initially treat Cooper as the guilty party after the attacker dies (later revealed to be due to a heart attack at the hospital). Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) steps in and warns law enforcement that charging Cooper with murder would be a major mistake. Tommy and Sheriff Walt Joeberg (Mark Collie) later push back with the police chief, and Cooper avoids charges.
At the same time, Tommy faces his own professional upheaval. After Cami Miller (Demi Moore) fires him from M-Tex in the penultimate episode, Tommy responds by launching a competing company: CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. He convinces cartel boss Danny “Gallino” Morrell (Andy García) to invest as an equal partner, and he poaches key talent — including naming Cooper president while taking the senior vice president role himself.
That decision positions Tommy directly against Cami heading into season 3.
Is Billy Bob Thornton Leaving ‘Landman’? Actor Shuts Down Rumors
After Tommy’s firing, reports circulated that Thornton could be leaving “Landman.” Thornton dismissed that speculation.
“There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show,” Thornton said to USA Today. “They have nothing to do with reality.”
Thornton added that he plans to stay with the series as long as it continues. “With season 3 scheduled to begin shooting in the spring,” he confirmed, “I’ll be there.”
He also praised working with Sam Elliott, who joined season 2 as Tommy’s father, T.L. “It’s been great working with Sam. And I love doing the show,” Thornton said. “I’ll be here as long as it plays out.”

Acting is phenomenal. Billy Bob Thornton should get some kind of award for the show. Can’t stop binge watching and I’m 92 years old. Keep the series going.
