It seems like HGTV series “Rock the Block” Season 7 isn’t just about bold designs and big-budget renovations; it’s also bringing some real, human moments to the forefront. And honestly? We can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
Ahead of filming, Scott McGillivray and his teammate Brooke Hogan didn’t just jump into construction mode. Instead, they took time to connect on a much deeper level, setting the tone for what may be one of the most emotionally layered seasons yet of “Rock the Block.”
A Partnership Built on Honesty
HGTV shook things up this season by “pairing network stars with celebrities who share a passion for design.” And the duos are stacked. McGillivray and Hogan are going head-to-head with teams like Taniya Nayak and Drew Lachey, Mina Starsiak Hawk and Vernon Davis, and Kim Wolfe with Chelsea Meissner; all under the watchful eye of returning host Ty Pennington.
But before the tools came out, McGillivray revealed in an interview with Fox News that he and Hogan had a meaningful conversation off-site.
“Brooke and I got to meet off-site beforehand… and just really kind of have a heart-to-heart like, ‘Hey, are you ready for this? Is there anything I can do?’ The renovation is important, but being human is also a big part of this.”
That tone clearly carried into their working relationship. McGillivray didn’t hold back when describing what made Hogan such a strong partner:
“The best thing about Brooke is that she has no secrets. She is a truth teller at all times, and that made it simple to be her partner because I always knew what I was dealing with.”
Let’s be real; on a high-pressure competition show, that kind of transparency? Priceless.
HGTV‘Rock the Block’: More Than Just Renovations
If you thought this season would just be about who delivers the flashiest kitchen or the most luxurious bedroom, think again. According to McGillivray, the emotional depth between teammates is going to be a major part of the story.
“Our first couple days on the job site was like therapy, honestly… getting to that level of understanding each other was key.”
And it didn’t stop there.
“There were a lot of times where Brooke and I got into some pretty heavy conversations… I think people are going to see more than just a renovation. They’re going to see people transformations as well in this one.”
Yep, you read that right; people transformations.
Hogan, who lost her father, wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, in 2025, is stepping into this season with a lot of life experience behind her. While the show doesn’t center on personal loss, it seems like those real-life moments have shaped how she approaches both the competition and her partnership.
And honestly, it adds a layer of authenticity that reality TV doesn’t always deliver.
When Design Meets Real Life
“Rock the Block” has always thrived on creativity, competition, and those jaw-dropping reveals. But Season 7 looks like it’s adding something extra… connection.
It seems like the McGillivray-Hogan duo is blending skill with sincerity, and that combination could make them serious contenders. Or at the very least, the team everyone’s rooting for.
Episode 2 airs tomorrow, Monday, April 20, 2026 at 8:00pm ET on HGTV, and if the early buzz is anything to go by, this season might hit a little differently; in the best way.
Because sure, we love a stunning renovation. But a little heart behind it? That’s what makes it stick.
