The season 2 finale of “Landman” is out, and it ties up several big storylines while also setting the stage for what’s next. The episode follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he deals with multiple crises at once, including the aftermath of Ariana’s (Paulina Chavez) assault, Cooper’s (Jacob Lofland) brutal fight with her attacker, and the uncertain future of M-Tex Oil after Tommy is fired.
The finale moves from Ainsley’s rough first day at cheer camp to a tense situation at the police station — and it all builds to the final moments, when Tommy makes a major decision that changes everything. Here’s a breakdown of what happened and what it could mean heading into the next season.
Warning! Major Spoilers Ahead!
‘Landman’ Finale Recap: Ainsley Faces Cheer Camp Reality Check
The finale opens with a lighter storyline before shifting into the episode’s heavier events. Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) arrives at cheer camp and quickly realizes that college cheer is on another level. Her first day makes it clear that cheerleaders aren’t just performers — they are elite athletes.
Ainsley’s ferret-loving former roommate Paigyn (Bobbi Salvör Menuez) appears in an unexpected role: one of the team’s physical therapists. Paigyn notices Ainsley’s weak ankles and tapes them up before training. Ainsley is surprised by the kindness, thanks Paigyn, and heads back to practice.
Later, a group of high school boys begins catcalling the cheerleaders from the bleachers. The team ignores them until the boys start mocking Paigyn’s androgynous appearance. At that point, Ainsley confronts them directly and flips the moment, leaving the boys embarrassed and retreating.
Paigyn apologizes for the earlier tension between them, and Ainsley offers to try being roommates again — on one condition. “As long as you give the ferret a bath,” she says.
Ariana Assault Fallout: Cooper Interrogated After Johnny Dies
The episode quickly turns serious when Cooper and Ariana go to the Odessa police station to report Ariana’s assault. While Ariana is clearly the victim, the investigation takes a sharp turn. Cooper is treated like the suspect after his beatdown of Ariana’s attacker, Johnny (Mike Harkins).
Security camera footage reportedly shows Cooper hitting Johnny 17 times — far beyond the point where he could have stopped — and Johnny later dies in the hospital. That death puts Cooper in immediate legal danger, and the interrogation becomes increasingly intense.
Ariana responds fast, calling the only lawyer she knows: Rebecca (Kayla Wallace). Rebecca instructs Ariana to interrupt the interrogation, place her on speakerphone, and stop Cooper from talking. Ariana follows the directions exactly. When Rebecca arrives, she aggressively challenges the officers and shuts the situation down.
While heading to the station, Rebecca calls Tommy and tells him what is happening. Tommy then contacts Sheriff Joeberg (Mark Collie) to learn what charges Cooper may face.
Tommy’s stress compounds as he is already unraveling personally. He yells at God over everything that has happened, then narrowly avoids a multi-car pileup after Angela (Ali Larter) calls, furious that Tommy did not tell her he was fired from M-Tex.
Tommy ultimately meets with Sheriff Joeberg, County Attorney Devin Allsup (Joseph Finfer), and Chief of Police Hector Ramoz (Abel Becerra). He argues murder charges against Cooper would send the wrong message to the community — and the pressure campaign works. Cooper avoids the worst-case outcome.
M-Tex Oil Future: Cami Learns Monty Hid the Paper Trail
At M-Tex, Cami (Demi Moore) makes a disturbing discovery after Monty’s (Jon Hamm) death. She realizes Monty did not keep digital records of many company transactions — only paper ones. She tells Nathan (Colm Feore) when he arrives at her office.
Nathan explains that Monty likely did this so records could be destroyed quickly if litigation threatened the company. With Tommy gone, Cami offers Nathan the job of M-Tex president — a possibility Tommy previously predicted. Nathan declines, telling her Monty built M-Tex to be sold. He offers to help her sell it and even resigns, leaving Cami facing an uncertain road forward.
‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Reveals Tommy’s Next Chapter: CTT Exploration Is Born
Despite being fired, Tommy’s story is far from over. In the middle of everything, he also borrows $44 million from Gallino (Andy Garcia). Following advice from Bob (Colin Ferguson) to do everything legally “or you’ll get burned,” Tommy moves carefully and builds something new.
Tommy gathers key people at one of Cooper’s wells and reveals they have leases on surrounding land — and every drilled well hit. That means one thing: they’ve got an oil company.
Tommy announces the creation of a new corporation: CTT Exploration and Cattle Company. He offers profit-sharing roles to the group, formalizing the team they already functioned as. Tommy names Cooper as president and himself as senior vice president. Nathan becomes Treasurer, Rebecca becomes Chief Operating Officer and Chief Counsel, Dale (James Jordan) becomes Head of Exploration, Boss (Mustafa Speaks) becomes Crew Chief, T.L. (Sam Elliott) oversees drilling, and Ariana becomes office manager.
In a final twist of irony and triumph, the company landman becomes “his own landman.”
‘Landman’ Season 2 Finale Dedication: Who Was Judy Ann Prachyl?
The season 2 finale includes a dedication to Judy Ann Prachyl, described onscreen as “The Nursing Home OG.” The episode notes she died on Dec. 18, 2025, and she was reportedly known to Taylor Sheridan and his family, as well as an avid fan of “Yellowstone.”
