Luke Macfarlane has a big week ahead. On March 4, 2026, the longtime Hallmark star will take a huge step toward returning to Broadway.
According to Broadway World, Macfarlane will be in New York City to co-star in a “private presentation of a new Broadway-bound production” of the 2006 Tony-nominated play “The Little Dog Laughed,” alongside Billy Porter and Cooper Koch. As soon as the news broke, Macfarlane’s Hallmark colleagues were quick to cheer him on.
All About the Broadway-Bound Play Luke Macfarlane is Part Of
“The Little Dog Laughed,” a comedy written by Douglas Carter Beane, premiered Off-Broadway in 2006 and was so popular it made its way to Broadway later that year and earned a Tony nomination for Best Play, according to Playbill.
Tom Everett Scott made his Broadway debut in the play as Mitchell, “a rising (and closeted) movie star,” and Johnny Galecki played Alex, a male escort who has a secret relationship with Mitchell, per Deadline. Mitchell’s agent was played by Julie White, who won a 2007 Tony for her performance. Deadline reported that her role has been “reimagined” for Porter.
The March 4 presentation with Porter, Macfarlane, and Koch “is being held with plans for a full Broadway revival as the project’s next step,” per Playbill.
If all goes as planned, it will mark Macfarlane’s first time on a Broadway stage since 2011, when he made his Broadway debut in “The Normal Heart” starring Ellen Barkin. Macfarlane told Tommy DiDario on a March 2025 episode of his podcast that it was one of the highlights of his career, even now.
